    Got it! For some reason wouldnt work with my USB so I burned both names .fd files to cd and popped it in. 30 seconds later I am up and running!

    I love this place.

    FYI.. Makes usre the computer you are working on is not a dual boot system. Probably a rookie mistake but now have upgraded to Acer v1.45 and getting ready to flash the modded bios.

    Dont know why the dual boot would have stopped it from flashing from DOS on a usb or cd.

    Hey guys. I have just recently bricked my Compal PBL21, and I need some help. I have the latest bios folder, it came with some exe files, a batch file, and a .bin and .rom file. I found the name for the bin file from Andy's tool. PBL00.bin, but I don't know what the rom does. I tried just putting the rom and the bin file on my flash drive and trying to fix. I remove the battery and put the drive in, then hold FN and ESC and plugged in the adapter, waited 4 seconds and then hit power. It didn't work though... Doe s anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Please help!

    Same Issue

    I'm having the same issue but don't have the rom. I do know that for the Compal the key combination is Fn + B. Maybe that will help. Know where I can get the .rom file?

    Where did you find the .sig files at? I downloaded the two latest bios from HP and when I load it into Andy's (Phoenix Tool 2.11) unless I am doing the dump wrong I get .rom files and it broke out the correct .fd file I already tried to load the .bin I renamed the .fd (by opening up the ini file in Word (Word Pad in this case). I come up only with the file(s) to rename into .bin

    Otherwise I can get it to read my flash drive with either just the bin files or with the bin files inside the HP Tools Folder.

    Any help would be great...

    Same here, that is the same bio.fd file I am using. Found the correct name and put on just a flash drive and with folders created by HP's UEFI Tool. Reads the flash drive, beeps a few times. Takes about 1-3 mins and goes back to how it was. (blank screen, flashing cap/num locks, wifi orange)

    Are you saying your laptop never beeped? I can get it to read the flash drive, as soon as I see the drive blip I let go of Win+B keys. Then it beeps once and starts what looks like reading the drive. The first beep about 5 seconds after the drive has been accessed, then about 10 second between each beep until about a min passes where it stops. Still have the blinking lights and no display. This is assuming the correct file was on the file drive and named correctly.

    I am using bios F.03 which is the oldest one available on HP's web site. I have renamed the .fd file to both 363F and 3652 based on the platform.ini file via Word Pad -
    The flash drive is formatted to FAT16 but it also reads it at FAT32

    Not sure how I bricked it, I never touched anything other than remove the HDD for an SSD, but even then I booted to my Windows Home Server Client Restore to do a Bare Metal Install of the last image made by WHS 2011. Its worked previously no issues on two different desktop motherboard, one SATA II and the current one SATA III. I may have been a bit hasty however with the laptop while it was changing the boot sequence (in the background unseen on screen) as I clicked the Finish Button when the image finished loading (by forcing a hard reboot, instead of letting it do it on its own).

    Ever since that point however no bios, no bios/uefi recovery console, nothing. Just flashing Cap Lock and Number keys, orange WiFi and no screen/display.

    Its been two days now that I tried this. I'll keep trying, by the flash drive being read I think I am on the right track. I just bought the SSD and a PS3 holiday bundle so buying another laptop is out of the question; Plus I don't think this is unrecoverable.

    Thanks

    PS, I have a video I posted on You Tube, if you want to see it PM me.

    try different versions of bios.. sometimes older does recover. using CRISDISK ? ph61700 or phlash16?. not all versions work. has to be one used by other toshibas success

    oops confusing it with toshiba.

    sometimes if its NVIDIA and AMD mobo.. the MCP### gets desoldered .. needs reflow.

    if not the reflow issue. then try different usb stick in different slot. and take HDD out.

    Its an AMD motherboard and chipset GPU (HD4200). The laptop worked just fine until I tried to replace the current HDD with an SSD. The only issue I had was a nearly dead battery which would prolong the system returning from sleep. Other than that and the of course the occasional Flash crash (using either FF or Chrome) it worked fine. As I said its likely the computer was doing something in the background when I forced a hard reset and that knackered the bios.

    As I said it reads the flash drive used which is the oldest one I have (circa 2007). I do have an even older one but I believe its too small (128MB) for this.

    I will have to try and make a CRISDISK Flash Drive or floppy (via USB Floppy Drive), but I read some nonsense about using a hex editor and I am not about to do that. Thanks...

    I have an HP CQ61-420US that quit booting up. When I start it, it goes to a black screen and the caps lock and numpad light blink twice. On HP's website, it says it's a bios corruption. I've tried flashing the bios with the fd bios file from the HP website, and when I do, the computer looks as if the computer is reading from the usb flash drive (formatted to FAT, as well as FAT32) for about 30-ish seconds, and beeps as well. After about a minute, the beeping and reading of the usb drive stops, but nothing happens. I shut off the computer, and the same old black screen and light blinking happens.

    The laptop is out of warranty and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg to send it in. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

    use sp48394.exe to make USB EFI then
    use the file inside the .exe renamed to
    PlatformName=363F.bin
    PlatformName2=3652.bin
    F.bin

    and copy it to the usb in the current and previous folders.. remove hard disk and try the procedure Win B keys or Fn B or Fn Esc or all 4 arrow keys

    the file does not need to be .DECrypted as i ran it in phoenix tool and no .DEC was made .. not RSA type.

    any usb 8gb or so works.. i prefer sandisk cruzer

    Okay, here's what I did, however it didn't work. The usb drive looks as if it's working, and I hear the beeping, but after about 30ish seconds, it stops and the keyboard just continues to blink and the screen black.

    I took the sp48394.exe, and installed it on the usb flash drive (which installs the HP_TOOLS). I then took the bios exe, extracted it and got the .fd file, renamed it to 363F.bin and placed it in the root of the usb flash drive along with the platform file (renaming the platformname and platformname2 to what you said). What is the F.bin?

    If you could explain a bit more, I would greatly appreciate it!
