For whatever reason this laptop still has MSE after the upgrade to 10. It is still in P&F, System Tray, and is in fact still running. Every time it boots Windows Defender throws up a message saying that it cannot start. Going to P&F and running the uninstaller gives you a message that MSE isn't supported on 10 and shames you for trying to install it. The only option it gives is to close the uninstaller.

The MSE removal tool (MSFixIt) won't run because 10 isn't a supported operating system and I prefer not to remove AV software with Revo.

So, any thoughts on how to remove it?

But why would you not do a clean install?

So it looks like there is no actual fix for it. So if this happens to you, you have 3 options:

    1. Set it back to Windows 7 and remove the security software, then re-upgraded to 10.
    2. Windows 10 Refresh.
    3. Back up your data and fresh install 10.
