I put a request in what I thought was the appropriate thread, but figured out it was for slic and not slp. So I requested further in for slp mod, but was told it could not be done, as a tool I was told to use returned the result of "slic table not found" What is odd is that I found another post with a file that worked for someone, but the link is long dead. I'm kinda lost on slp vs slic. What I want is WinHomeServer v1 which is slp 1.0. Can slic not be used to activate slp?
Thanks for the reply. I won't be able to get back to the machine until tomorrow night. And I am going for the WHS that is not 2011, but the 2003 sbs based. I received an old supermicro server, and found out it was so old it was xeon 32bit only, by whs2011 bombing on install.
I booted into XP (I installed on the system) to run the oembios test. I don't know if that makes a difference. Anyways, it returned a result along the lines of "none of the xx bios files will activate" on both xp and 2003 tests. This is a Phoenix bios on a Supermicro board.
Yes .. I see .. I remember now .. We are on different time zones I think .. .. I will respond in the AM .. It is 8:01 here .. until then take care
original request forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/5864-Phoenix-bios-SLIC-mod-requests-(*-WPH-or-*-ROM-files)?p=679779&viewfull=1#post679779 supposed working file forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/5864-Phoenix-bios-SLIC-mod-requests-(*-WPH-or-*-ROM-files)?p=365267&viewfull=1#post365267 I had a thought. Was anyone able to successfully mod vmware bios and get oem activation to work? If so, why not just install on a vm that way, then move the fresh install over to a physical machine?
The problem with that is that the system will require reactivation if too much of the hardware changes.
This is absolutely maddening I can't get a working WHS v1. I even tried to buy a key from MS. Keys are not available even with a technet subscription.
the hardware only allows x86. look at the link in post #6 and you can't tattoo the board and this supermicro board does not have SLP 1.0 present in BIOS. SO that leaves buy x86 Windows OS or use a Linux OS like free NAS if you want file server .. The Op has still not defined what he wants to use the server for. Or find a way to mod the BIOs with SLP 1.0
If you'd really like, I can keep looking into adding an SLP string to your BIOS. WHSv1 is so silly at this point, though, why not just use Server 2008? Only Server 2008 R2 requires x64, Server 2008 does not, and can be activated using SLIC very easily.
I don't have the hardware to run anything better, nor the $ as I just upgraded my main system from a 12 year old one. This is for a file server, but it also has the Media Center connector capability which I really like. Its a dual 32bit xeon, only has 2GB of memory, and pc2100 isnt cheap anymore, making WHSv1 ideal. I guess I'll buy that copy off Ebay. Thanks for the link.
