Updated OP again with v1.2.4b... I found a very minor bug involving the context menu. I was going to wait until the next version to fix it, but then I figured what the hell... Good night everyone...its like 4am here and I'm gonna pass out...
Yeah, you would see that if no GRUB file existed prior to installation. I will make that work a little differently with the next release so it does not look like an error ... There should have been no problems with the install/uninstall though...correct?
Thank you Sometimes Mediafire does not work late at night, as that is when they sometimes do server maintenance... I am glad that it was not down for long.
You are most welcome, thank you very much. Hopefully everything is working well. I try hard to make everything easy to use and "automatic"...so all you have to do is click the "Install" button ...I even tossed some context menus in there for the hell of it EDIT: OMG, over 300 people have downloaded the new version off my share since I posted it at 4am this morning. Thanks for the support everyone! I hope the lack of bug reports means that everything is working well... That is probably nothing compared to some of the other loaders, but that is nice to see that people are enjoying O7A.
slmgr.vbs -upk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol you should put that option in... and uninstall loader only.... it would make it so much better... think about it someone buys or gets a legit key and wants to use it.... they click uninstall ldr button then check install pkey only
I am going to. I have quite a few ideas for an advanced options setup...I just want to make sure all the underlying code nice and solid before I add a bunch of new stuff...
HELP!!!! I am new to this game so bear with me...but please help me restore my W7 Ultimate. I spent quite a bit of time setting it up and loading everything...now it's dead. Story: I used the prog to activate, selected Gigabyte/Custom and provided the key I had (which installed fine). It just looks like the key is the same 342xxxx which floats around here as well. Anyways, I verified it was valid, clicked install, rebooted when prompted and now it won't boot in W7 anymore. No error message, nothing, it just sits there. I should add I tried the installation DVD and did a "restore" - no go, also a "repair" was of no use, but the partition with W7 was visible. I did NOT modify the BIOS, but in desperation I tried flashing it again just in case...didn't help. PLEASE? As fate has it, I did take a full backup before all this, but in my infinite stupidity I did not realize I have Acronis ON THE PC....didn't create a bootable CD yet...damn.
You dont need to do a repair or recover anything. All you need to do is go to the Advanced Recovery Options, then select the option to go to a Command Prompt. After that, run "bootsect.exe /fixboot". Your boot is hanging because you need to choose a different loader mode when installing. You probably just used the "Default" loader mode. I would recommend trying the "Alternate" or "Forced" modes EDIT: If you used a custom key, are you sure it was a SLP key??? If you want to install a custom *retail* key to activate, then you do not need to install the loader...all you need to do is select the "Install Product Key only" option, then enter the retail key to be installed, and then click the Install button EDIT2: If you dont know which kind of key it is, then run it through the integrated product key checker and see what kind of key it is. O7A's integrated product key checker will tell you whether it is a retail, MSDN, SLP, etc. product key...hell, O7A's integrated product key checker will even tell you if the key you are checking will be genuine when you install it in your Windows before installing it...
The problem may not be due to the key. I was just asking since if you are installing the loader, you should use a SLP key. If you are installing a custom *retail* key, then you dont need to install the loader. If you say the key was posted here though, then it is probably a SLP key...so you are probably ok for the key, but you are always welcome to select a different key fro the "Product Key" combo box. If your boot is hanging it is most likely due to the fact that the loader mode you used is not compatible with your system. Instead of using the "Default" loader mode, try the "Alternate" or "Forced" modes. With loaders, you sometimes need to do a little trial-and-error to find the loader mode that works on your system. Most of the time the "Default" mode works. It is just those few times where you will need to try a different mode. If none of the modes work, you can try a different loader...but you will probably have to use a non-loader solution like RemoveWAT or CHEW-WGA to bypass activation if that is the case.
lol...well at least you are activated now. That is true if you have a system volume. If you have a boot volume that is separate from your Windows install volume then things can turn out how they did, and that is most likely the case here. There should be no problems, and the one you had could have been easily fixed by inserting the Windows 7 DVD and booting off of it. Then select the recovery options, then go to the advanced recovery options (you may need to cancel it if it tries to auto-diagnose your problem...). From there, select the bottom option to start a recovery console. From there, type "bootsect /fixboot" and it should fix your problem without having to restore anything. I am unsure why you had the problems you are having. In testing I could not replicate the issue and since it seems like it was hanging on boot (like you say) then I can only assume the issue was something to do with grub loader either not loading correctly, or not chain loading Windows correctly. I will look into the issue though and see if I can replicate the problem...but thus far I have been unable to. EDIT: Since the program installed everything successfully I doubt there will be an error log file, but if there is one (and you wouldn't mind PM'ing it to me) then that would be awesome if you could send it to me (again, there might not be an error log file, so dont be alarmed if there isn't one)...it would help me diagnose if any issues have occurred when the program was installing everything in order to improve the install process in the future. In order to get to your error log file, start O7A and right-click on it and select the option to open the "More Options" window. When the "More Options" window opens, select the "Misc" tab. From there, click on the link that says "View Open 7 Activator's error log file...". O7A's error log file, if one exists, should then open up in Notepad (if one does not exist then you will be told).
Yeah...like I said, after second reboot no more activation (which is what the systemwas when I took the backup). There was no reason whatsoever why it said activated the first time... One more thing: it now shows the OEM product key which I don't think I have seen there before...same 0026xxxx that some people talk about. As far as the volumes are concerned, I boot from the same volume where W7 is...bo dual boot or anything. And no, there is no error log (but remember, this is the backup BEFORE I tried the activation - so I didn't think there would be one). So just I stop wasting your time on this...what is my best option to activate? Use any key that pops up by default and hit install, without worrying about the key W7 was installed with or about the Mobo manufacturer? Cheers... PS. I should have indeed used the boot recovery method...I did panic, didn't I
lol i think he means the 100mb system volume the install creates.... if you dont have that loaders will probably not work right....
