To be honest, i'll download the RTM build, try to make out my faded windows 7 sticker, and try to activate. If I do not succeed that way, i'll just grab the final Build and wait for a KMS/Loader activation. All I want to do after 29th, is forget about this build-mess, activation-mess, ms-mess. I'm opting out Insider in all my Pcs. This is f****** messy. When they get their thing straight, and have clearer rules and info i may comeback to be their rat lab.
If you have a Windows sticker, why don't you reinstall 7 and activate via SLP generic key? You're allowed to do that and it becomes a legit upgrade. Besides, if you upgraded from that 7 installation to the Tech Preview, they already said it will be activated even if you leave the insider program.
yup I have a laptop setup and dedicated just for Win10 and a retail upgrade from home premium to pro just to see how the upgrade goes.
I'm actually thinking if I should "downgrade" my laptop now, came with 7 Pro but I installed Ultimate because I wanted to switch the base language and couldn't find the equivalent Pro disc... Though based on the upgrade path I'll end up with 10 Pro anyways, not sure if it makes a difference in activation.
Really? How can i do that? My sticker is missing the FIRST 5 digits. I have formated my HD before going to pirated 8.1. But there's an OEM partition with about 350MB, plus a recover partition of 450mb. I do not own the cd of W7 but can i use ISO files from torrents? It may be a dumb question what's a SLP generic Key.
the Laptop was HP, but I upgraded to Pro. So I am interested in the SLIC being for HP but the system activated with Pro going to Win10. I wasnt clear
Just follow the instructions on doing SLIC 2.1 activation in these forums, minus the BIOS mod. Considering you saying that it came with the sticker, you probably have the marker already.
Oh okay. Just one last question, My PC came with x86 7 Home Basic, can i do the downgrade and then install X64 build 10130? Or i'll have a x86 W10
While you are it, install W7 Pro before you do a upgrade to TP.. so you have Windows 10 Pro instead of Home. Be aware though if your hardware is very old, 64bit Windows 10 may not actually work for you but hopefully you don't have such ridiculously old hardware.
Well that technically is a license violation... not sure if the upgrade process will detect that. That's why I recommended sticking with the original edition in case something happens and it asks for a key. I'm already thinking if I should reinstall back to Pro from my Ultimate on my laptop.
Once they make the change to RTM, I see no reason to not stay as part of the Insider Program and opt for the Slow Ring. Slow Ring builds have been fairly stable for the most part - there have been exceptions - and staying in the Insider Program means I don't have to worry about using Loader on my W7 build. I've long since associated my email address with a MSA, so I'll continue to get the builds. T
