Add seamless UEFI boot of NTFS partitions, for Windows ISOs with large files (>4GB) This is magnificent!!! Holy s...!
Since the release of the Beta V. 2.0 of WinToUSB, now released and new Beta v. 2.1 with VHD support, I use WinToUSB only for to create WindowsToGo and PE's what Rufus couldn't at all. I got problems with Rufus (all versions) using original MS ISO's while many of them simply failing in the USB Creation Process. Since I use the Microsoft own Windows 7 USB/DVD tool which works with ALL original MS ISO's!
Also haven't had a single issue with original/untouched iso images from MS. Some goes for custom ones.
Thanks for the response Akeo. Regarding Rufus's Partition scheme and Target system type - "MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers", I Actually also had a discussion with Brink of eightforums (I think you know of him) about it. He claims that the "MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers" makes the flashdrive both UEFI and (Legacy) BIOS bootable. -- which I really hope is true and hope that this feature gets added too if it's not yet added in Rufus. I'll just PM you the link since I can't post a link here yet.
Yes I understand your point about the wordings and such with the partition schemes and I think it's very logical that you made it that way. I have no problems with that. I just got confused and misunderstood the FAQ entry about "Why doesn't Rufus create a Windows installation USB that can be booted in both BIOS and EFI mode?" I misunderstood the Alt-E cheat mode that I thought it was referring altogether to Windows To Go because it is in the same section/sentence. But I get it now. A change for title entry: "Why doesn't Rufus create a Windows installation USB that can be booted in both BIOS and EFI mode (unless you are using the Alt-E cheat mode as detailed below)" as you have mentioned does sound pretty good and it could avoid the same confusion I just had. Anyways, I understand your frustration and I'm sorry for that. But as I've said I just got confused that's all. And well... yeah, thanks!
Windows Setup error | UEFI | GPT Disk | NTFS Getting this error using Rufus 2.0: GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer File system: NTFS The error pops up right after setup program starts to decompress install.esd on the HDD. No error (as always) if I use: GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer File system: FAT32 Tested using two custom made isos: Windows 8.1 AIO x64 and <4GB install.esd Windows 7 AIO x64 and <4GB install.esd I assume that the fact install.esd is less than 4GB (just for testing purposes) does not represent a problem. ISO file was created using the following command: Code: oscdimg -bootdata:2#p0,e,bW:\aio\x64\boot\etfsboot.com#pEF,e,bW:\aio\ox64\efi\microsoft\boot\efisys.bin -u2 -o -udfver102 -laio W:\aio\x64\ W:\DVD1.iso Update: I tested using an untouched Windows 8.1 x64 iso file and it throws the same error under NTFS format.
