AMD implemented the POPCNT instruction starting with its K10 microarchitecture (codename Barcelona), which was released around 2007/2008. Therefore, any compatible Phenom II or Athlon II processor installed in the Biostar TA785G3 HD will have the necessary POPCNT instruction support. • The AMD Athlon II X4 630 processor does not support the POPCNT instruction. The Athlon II X4 630, which uses the Propus architecture, only supports the following instruction sets: * MMX(+), 3DNow!(+), SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4A, x86-64 (AMD64), AMD-V. The crucial POPCNT instruction is not included in the SSE4A set supported by this CPU; it generally requires a newer architecture like AMD FX processors (Bulldozer and later) or Intel Core i3/i5/i7 (Nehalem and later). The absence of POPCNT support means that some modern software, notably recent versions of Windows 11 (24H2 and newer), will not run on systems with this processor. If the CPU does not support SSE4.2, then 24H2 and higher is a no-go. The other requirements are independent from this, they are arbitrary and can be circumvented. AMD supports SSE4.2 with Bulldozer or higher IIRC.
