Codec Extension INF update is not necessary since: Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog only provide Codec INF & Software Component update The reason that Realtek update Codec Extension INF is to support laptop/MB (MSI, HP, Dell, Clevo) with Realtek chips which will be sale on market, the audio effects of older Codec Extension INF is same as newer Codec Extension INF (just only add HWID) e.g. A older MSI laptop install a Codec 8614 inf + CodecExtOem 8614, that Windows Update will only update Codec 8688 inf + Software Component update. CodecExtOem version remain still remain unchanged. Note that if the zip file name have not include "WHQL" in Realtek FTP even it had been signed by WHQL, OEM(e.g. MSI) don't release these file to their end users.
I have a laptop using the ICE Power Audio Wizard. It's on Realtek HDA 8514 so what version can I use that's more recent? Update: It appears FF00 works, I know ICE is a seperate ASUS program but thought the driver itself needed support, maybe the generics do already? I know Nahimic had to be FF03 with my ASUS B350-F
My motherboard works well with Microsoft's default audio driver. Do I need to use Realteks audio driver? Will my motherboard codec perform better with Realteks audio driver? Also I'm not sure which Realtek HD audio driver I need. These are the options on their website: High Definition Drivers: - ALC888S-VD - ALC892 -ALC898 I don't want to use the audio driver that is offered on Asus's website as it includes bloatware. Thanks in advance. Motherboard: Asus H370-I Codec: ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC S1220A
