For me, I only need direct links for trial versions

 

Upgraded from v12.x to 15.x on Windows 8.1 x64.

When I open (not run) a vm I did on v12.x a link shows up saying "Upgrade this virtual machine".
What it means, what consequences I could get if I don't upgrade or if I do. In sum, all I need to know what that link means.

Well, I would open the Create new machine dialog, set it to Custom and see what you don't get if you create a machine with 12.x compatibility settings. It should also be easy to test: Vmware WS Pro 15 claims to have the feature "USB Auto connect to virtual machine". If that is the way it works, the feature should be available on an upgraded machine as well. I do understand if you have virtual machines where you run some type of production environments and don't want to mess around.
