I want to enable windows defender updates, since it appears that it gets more than one update per day. Is there a way to do that ?
It's easy to notice that payed software is on the top and free is on the bottom. Even variations that have the same engine and database have different places on the list based on them being free or not (like AVG). This list shows anything but the truth. I'm not saying this to defend MSE, just don't try to take people for a fool.
Paid AVs have ALWAYS been better, like it or not, it's a fact. Noone can match the likes of Kaspersky, Bitdefender, or Eset NOD32, or Trend Micro now, speaking of free, look at the list, there are many free AVs that blow MSE or Windows Defender out of the water like Avira or avast! Free
Well many maleware say's that they are protecting there useres against maleware and behave than like ransomware. Many people are truely beliving the bullsh*t they are advertising. This "objective" list also doesn't list any difference between the Windows 7 and the Windows 8 defender. If I analyzed your statement you could have said "Paid AVs have ALWAYS been better listed in such list, like it or not, it's a fact."
LOL, nope. If you have the same engine and same database the detection rate is equal as well. You know, the law of conservation of energy... Paid products are "better" in a sense that they have support, extra features like browser plugins etc., but the detection rate is the same.
You can create a sheduled task to run "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" with argument -SignatureUpdate
Signatures are also automatically updated during system maintenance. You can configure this in action center
Exactly, tested in several machines with automatic updates disabled, works as expected. <Exec> <Command>"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe"</Command> <Arguments>-SignatureUpdate -MMPC</Arguments> </Exec> [-MMPC] Performs update directly from Microsoft Malware Protection Center I don't know why people rely in antivirus, all of them are inefficient since none have a 100% detection rate. At least windows defender is the less annoying and don't eat all your computer resources. Restricted user accounts associated with application control policies or software control policies is much more efficient, but sometimes can be a pain in the ..., nevermind. I miss linux security model so much, "run as diferent user" is not as close the functionality of "sudo".
