I (and many others also) have found that the AMD Catalyst video driver Un-install Utility Amd_cleanup_util_1.2.1.0.exe corrupts Windows 8 UAC for admin accounts and a reload of Windows is the only way to correct the problems the utility caused. I do not want to upgrade or downgrade from my Windows 8 Pro, I just want to reload the same Windows 8 Pro while preserving all my programs and setup. I read through this entire thread but did not see a specific mention of performing what amounts to a reload of the same version of Windows. I'm assuming the utility can handle this, correct? Wrote this partly to ask a question and partly to make it that others searching for fixes to the Amd_cleanup_util_1.2.1.0.exe problem find this thread and your utility. Thanks
hi is it possible to keep all my installed software and games and using this downgrader? it will not cause some problems? this is not format-required?
windows 8 enterprise to windows 8 Pro "N" the process fail here too. I apply updown 8 last 1.5 version and I try to downgrade my windows 8 enterprise 32Bit legally registered to Windows Pro "N" 32Bit. and after "upgrade" selected I have this message : "upgrading to Windows 8 N Pro from Windows 8 Enterprise is different process... you have to reinstall windows.." Arrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh any help welcome thanks regards
I've had the same problem in the past. The only way I was able to get rid of outdated AMD driver remnants before an upgrade without any problems was to run"driver fusion" in safe-mode. Version 6 is better than the newer version 7 (bloated).
To clarify, I have a laptop with Windows 8 Core preinstalled and licensed by the OEM. Performed an offline upgrade to 8.1 with the official multi-version ISO, but accidentally used the 8.1 Pro generic key instead of the 8.1 Core one so 8.1 Pro was installed. Naturally, it would now fail activation. First solution that came to mind was to perform a clean install of 8.1 Core which would then activate properly. But I would have to reinstall a huge amount of apps and reconfigure a ton of settings. Then I discovered UpDown8 so I did a full image backup, ran UpDown8, selected Windows 8 Core, then performed an offline downgrade to 8.1 core with the official multi-version ISO using the generic 8.1 Core key. UpDown8 enabled me to keep all apps, settings etc. After downgrade, I activated using my original Core license key and it was successful. UpDown8 saved me a lot of time. One point to note, in several cases during testing both in VMware and natively, the downgrade process appeared to hang for several hours at one point. A power cycle resolved this and the installation resumed successfully.
I'm in desperate need of help. I've tried all morning to get my machine to downgrade from 8.1 Enterprise to 8.1 Pro. I've tried about 6 different ISO images, all of which tell me "This upgrade path is not supported. Please close Setup and re-launch from the root of the media or go back and pick a different installation choice. ". Is there anything I need to do besides launch UpDown8, click the Professional edition, click OK when the box comes up about doing the upgrade. I've tried several different 8.1 Pro isos (including an 8.1 update 1 thinking that would magically help). I've tried only launching the setup.exe when the UpDown8 dialog box with OK on it was still open (in some kind of weird hope), closing it completely after clicking OK, etc, but nothing has made it happy. Hi mates, probably it has already been asked before, anyway, is it possible to upgrade to From windows 8 pro To windows 8.1 Pro, with the legit key of windows 8? Thanks in advance.
Yes, it is one of the official upgrade paths. What type of 'legit' key are you using?? Retail/VL/OEM??
This drives me crazy, thanks for your help. I have played around with adding features and changed to WIN 8 pro, but system does not get activated. Well thought would be easy, jus go back to Core. Seems to be impossible on OEM version without complete re-install. Does anybody know a way? When I use updown8 to set it to core, I cant find the \source\setup on my generatied Lenovo USB-Key. When I try to use a different DVD does not work either. Trying to regedit and set version info to Windows 8 core does not help, in windows setting it still says it has Windows 8.1 pro. Any idea? Thanks in advance for any help! Regards Georg
Dumb question, where do I find this ISO? Sorry but I guess I have to make a break, can't find anything anymore....
