Tried downgrading Windows 8.1 Enterprise (WTK) to Windows 8.1 Pro using setup.exe in /sources, but failed. Tried using setup.exe in root and seemed to work but failed at the end. Any suggestions? Thanks for the app Tito!

    @JBenal @cje2kz @shadoom23

I've just tested it to downgrade from 8.1 Enterprise to 8.1 Pro (retail); it works without any problem. Which ISOs you're using?

It's a hidden directory. You need to show "hidden items" in Windows Explorer.

Successfully downgraded from Windows 8.1 Enterprise (x86) to Windows 8.1 Pro just this weekend. Done activating it as well.

Thanks for the tool, Tito! :D

BTW, I used the setup.exe in the root of the directory, not in the \sources folder because I got this error when I ran setup.exe from \sources: "This upgrade path is not supported. Please close Setup and re-launch from the root of the media or go back and pick a different installation choice. "

    Hi Folks,
    hi Tito,

same problem here trying to downgrade from windows 8.1 enterprise to pro. After changing the registry values (using Tito's tool) and starting from sources/setup.exe the setup routine starts and end with the error: "This upgrade path is not supported. Please close Setup and re-launch from the root of the media or go back and pick a different installation choice"

My system (installed as v-machine on a hyper-v host) is:
    Microsoft Windows 8.1 Enterprise
    Version6.3.9600 Build 9600

Installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise with Update (x64) DVD and activated with KMSpico. The EI.CFG is as follows:

    [EditionID]
    Enterprise

    [Channel]
    Volume

    [VL]
    1

No directory C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\Panther & C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\Rollback exists on my hard drive after setup stops.

Trying to change to a generic windows 8.1 professional key after the registry is edited fails, the key is rejected, error code is 0xc004F069

    Any clues?

Hello JSMIII, What type of media was used? DVD, USB Booteable or ISO Image?
I use a Windows 8.1 Pro on USB Booteable and ISO image mount on virtual drive and both attempts failed..
With dvd I have not tried yet

    Thx!!

Please do share which ones you'd recommend using :) ?
PS: Also.. should this not be a STICKY or atleast linked to in a MASTER STICKY that points to such cool tools/ ways that are not commonly visible or available.

This might be an odd request but is there any way to downgrade to the Windows 8.1 with Bing version? I have a Windows 8.1 core setup that I don't want to lose but I have a laptop here that came with a Bing licence and I would like to use it. I have tested it and I can upgrade from Windows 8.1 with Bing to Windows 8.1 Core via the add features to Windows wizard.

With Win10 RTM released, I wanted to go back from Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center KMS to Windows 8.1 Pro retail to upgrade to Win10 Pro and retain activation (and later do a clean install).

I had downloaded murphy78's latest Win 8.1 image with July 2015 updates, but the setup.exe from the root of the CD or USB exited without showing the installation GUI. Running setup.exe from the sources folder seemed to work until it compatibility checked and stopped with the "Upgrade Path is not Supported" error.

I downloaded the latest original Windows 8.1 DVD image (Update 3) -- en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_6051480, and that one started setup.exe from the root directory of the CD or USB just fine. I have not attempted the downgrade yet, but will later tonight. Just wanted to post my experience so far in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Edit: Downgrade was successful, just had to delete a few configuration files to have matlab behave again, other than that, the rest of the software I had installed and settings seem unaffected.
