Hey, I did what was said, selected the options, it said "You are already using Windows 8 Pro", I then proceeded to start the setup from my usb, I ran it from the sources directory and when I press Upgrade it says it can't upgrade Windows 8 Pro WMC to Windows 8 Pro, anything I did wrong? edit. I'll try the manual way and report if it worked. I change it to 7 right? In the registry, the values are still changed to 7? edit 2. It worked with the manual way.
Updated to v1.3!!! * No more CUI; new app & GUI written by woot332. * Completely written in ASM, thus small & fast. * You can now downgrade to Windows 8 Core. * Added Windows 7 support. * ProWMC bug fixed. * Other minor changes. Check the first post. @Mods Please change the thread title a little bit.
@Tito You can change thread title yourself by editing start post in advanced mode . @Tito & woot332 Nice improvement indeed .
@Tito you can add Win8 Enterprise Evaluation to the list of supported os. Just "upgraded" from Enterprise Evaluation to Enterprise.
@dawnsun 01. You can skip "Get important updates for Windows Setup" with No thanks. And its a offline inplace upgrade. 02. afaik enterprise has bulit in product key other skus require product key during innstalltion. 03. You enter the key that works with the edition you are up or downgrade to.
Thank you for clarifying the first post. So you can DOWNgrade from win 7 ent but not UPgrade to it - ok, thanks
Very nice utility Tito. Actually I seen this on TPB and I read by Tito (At least some people credit your work) and I was like, why wasn't I aware of this handy utility But seriously Tito, kudos my friend
Thanks Tito, this Application works great! I was successfully able to downgrade toWindows 8 PRO From Windows 8 with WMC! What skeptical Application users should Know: - That this will not effect any operations/files on your machine - Did Full process, and my machine runs identical to before, only this time minus the addition features! - Also, My Orginal Windows 8 install was extremely sensitive and required alot of fine tuning. This Program did not effect one thing! - Basically, If you have decided to downgrade from any windows 8 version.... And you're sure that's what you want to do. This Program is easily a safe and reliable choice. Little Background on why I needed to use this app: I originally installed windows 8 pro in order to get a Windows Media Center upgrade. Once KMS activated, and then upgraded. You Had 100% valid, legit, genuine code. Of Course I didn't see that this method didn't work anymore, and wen't ahead and tried it anyway. You can't KMS activate Windows 8 with WMC and the key codes Microsoft handed out didn't work properly with pirated KMS keys. So I'm now stuck on Windows 8 with WMC, un-activated, on a extremely unsupported WIN 8 Install. After Figuring out the above information, I then searched for "Downgrading windows 8", and came upon this thread... And then used tito's program Especially in the future, I would like to be on a standard edition (win 8 pro... doesn't get much more standard) to be able to keep up with activation methods. Until the the point where a crack keeps it genuine forever, then I can stop caring
I'd just like some confirmation before trying this. I think it should work, but would be nice to hear from someone who has done this before... My friend has Win864 Enterprise and wants to run Media Center... well... good on MS, he can't do that. He doesn't mind spending the $40 to buy Pro, but would rather not lose all his apps/settings. If he buys a Win8 Pro key, then runs UpDown8 and choses Win8PRO, then runs setup.exe from the sources directory of a Win8-64 iso, it should give the option to 'upgrade' and therefore all his data will stay intact, and he just enters the newly purchased PRO key, go with the install, and he shouldn't lose any installed programs. Does that sound correct?
I installed Windows 8 WMC by downloading an ISO which only asks to input the free WMC activation code. I could downgrade to Windows 8 Pro by using this tool but will it still be activated? Thanks
a) You just need the key, so check the mail. ISO isn't so important. It can be obtained from other sources. b) Not possible, due to MS licensing. c) MS doesn't allow downgrade. Enterprise is higher edition than Pro.
