    If I have a window 8 retail key, can i use it to install and activate win 8.1 pro? Plz let me know.

    Yes you can activate it with the retail key but you have to use the generic windows 8.1 pro key to install.

    Even if the retail key is only for windows 8 and not windows 8 pro i can still activate 8.1 pro?

    Of course not, core key activates core edition, pro key activates pro version simply as that.

    Can activate Windows 8.1 Core Can activate Windows 8.1 Pro
    You have Windows 8 Core retail key Yes No
    You have Windows 8 Pro retail key No Yes
    8 keys can't be used for installing 8.1. You have to use generic keys for installing & then apply your key.
