I want to thank ALL whio responded to this thread. I have now successfully upgraded to Win 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. Please know that every post was welcomed !! Special Thanks go out to Nucleus, Enthousiat and lobo11.
Hi to all, I successfully installed LTSB over Professional on my desktop pc...Thanks for the great tip. Now I have another challenge with my laptop, where Creator's update is installed (Windows 1703) Is that possible to "downgrade" from 1703 Professional Edition to 1607 LTSB, without doing a clean install, I mean keeping my files and apps? As I tried, it doesn't offer me the option to keep anything.
you can't upgrade from pro to LTSB without loosing files and apps so if you do it, you won't be able to keep files and apps.
Not true, it works perfectly with the simple registry edit provided in this thread... I did it without problem with the same edition (1607 pro to 1607 LTSB), and my question is only : would it be possible too (and how) from a different edition : 1703 pro to 1607 LTSB. Thank you.
that's very strange because i tried to upgrade from pro to LTSB and they didn't offer the option to keep files and apps. i did proceed to the upgrade using the LTSB iso from installed win10 pro version and as i said, i wasn't able to keep apps and files by doing that. how did you manage to keep files and apps by upgrading from pro to LTSB ? Edit : i've just seen the registry trick that was showed by someone in this topic and it works apparently. Great find!!!
I showed here that it worked, but i did not test it from 1703 > 1607 LTSB https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...n-10-ltsb-2016-help.72620/page-2#post-1305623
I also tested changing the "ReleaseId" value from 1703 to 1607 under the same key, but still a no go : still saying I try to install a different version so it can't keep anything.
I understood clearly. Upgrade still only makes sense if same OS base is used (i.e 1607 for LTSB creation) . P.S: Reminds me of the Win 7 to Win 10 SVF .
Hi, made the "mistake" upgrading to creator's 1703, which throws bunch of errors in event viewer, is sometimes laggy and, more important, with which some of my apps doesn't work anymore... That's why I'd like to use 2016LTSB which works perfect on my other computer, is lighter (space wise and resources wise) and perfect for my needs : I don't use any metro app. I uninstalled all the metro thing but still have those crappy errors and lags. I expected to learn if it could exist another trick or line to change, to keep my apps and files (instead of having my choise questioned). Of course I need to downgrade OS edition since LTSB 1703 doesn't exist. Since my Desktop drive (with LTSB and allmost same programs installed) is booting on my laptop I could install this image, already done that once (without universal restore, quite magical to see), but I'll have to backup and restore my personal files + install and clean all the different drivers after etc. and that's a lot of work and mess to deal with...
Seems quite a lot of people still underestimate System Image Backups one can revert to in such cases . So far i successfully avoided that upgrade, but have several backups for the worst case.
True...I have too few acronis backups for my desktop pc, do it monthly, unfortunately not for my laptop that I don't use so often, only when traveling like I am now...
i've read about this great Nucleous trick last year, i haven't had the opportunity to test it but @Enthousiast confirmed in one of his posts that it is working. i would like to know if this trick applies to only this case (win10 pro => win10 LTSB 2016) or you can use this trick from any win10 edition to upgrade to any windows 10 edition that you need. For example : can we use this trick in this case (win10 home => win10 LTSB N 2016) ?
[Hint] For Windows 10, to convert a SKU in place : 1. Install Enterprise LTSB certificates (packages) 2. In registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing], replace (as TrustedInstaller) Professional with EnterpriseS 3. Restart PC 4. Reinstall licenses: Run (as Admin) cscript slmgr.vbs /rilc 5. Install Enterprise LTSB key: Run (as Admin) cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX 6. (Optional) Uninstall Professional certificates and Windows Apps if necessary 7. Check if it was successfully converted: Run (as Admin) dism /online /get-currentedition
