I think for me is also the same problem, maybe I have used a different language for install win8 last time because if I try upgrading by using my self build AIO Win8.1 disk and select Prof x64, I will get same error message...

yes I will try and let you know

it is not only mabe but definitely. Lol, I ran into the same issue this morning by upgrading an enterprise box wondering about the issue with keeping apps. I installed the english one which i used a year ago for setup and voila, apps and everything could be upgraded :D

    yup definitely :D

first I had to find out which language I was using last time for installing win8. if you have more then 1 display language installed like me, just go to language settings and test which language cannot be uninstalled. for me was german, so I got the german win 8.1 RTM iso last night and upgrade successfully this morning even incl. WMC. Thx again PaulDesmond!

later this evening I have to struggle with the activation :worthy:

I've upgraded now to 8.1 (by delete cversion.ini).

All Settings & Apps where kept.

But now after a few minutes of starting 8.1, CPU load (Idle) is about 60-70% and don't stop working!

I am waiting for ~1h, but it didn't stop!

As I notice, there is no diagnostics or index-service runnig.

    What could be the problem?

Probably an incompatible driver or program that uses drivers.

How did you install? Did you upgrade over an existing installation?

Check processus in task manager to see what is using so much CPU

Yes I've noticed a lot of people complaining about high cpu load after using the upgrade process.
I think there are some incompatible things lingering.
I'm afraid that if you cannot sort it out, you might need to do a fresh install.
I'd back up any important stuff if I were you.

I've already done this, but there is no unique process, who causes the 60% load - it's about 5-6 system-processes, between 10-15%.

    A few questions:

    - I have Installed 8.1. RTM with the key given on this site. But I can't activate it with my Legit Windows 8 Pro with media center key. Is this a known problem, is there a workaround?
-> Solved. First I had to activate with the key I bought in the Microsoft store last october.
Adding the addition media center features with the key I was sent by Microsoft doesn't work though I get an error.

    - If things come to worst can I uninstall it and go back to Windows 8?

    - I have 2 screens. In Windows 8 I used Windows + Page up/ Page down to move the metro interface to the other screen. It doesn't work anymore. Is there a new keyboard shortcut?

Silma first of all you install windows 8.1 pro with a genetic install key not your legal windows 8.0 pro key.
after the install then you put your windows 8.1 pro key legal key and not your WMC key, once activated with your legal key then you can add your WMC key to complete the process :)

Tiworker is related to Windows Installer Module. Did you tried to reboot in safe mode and see if CPU activity was the same ?

    It seems to be not.

So this means fu*** clean install!? Becuase it's absolutely impossible to find the reason for cpu load:mad:

Unfortunately, I think this might be just one of those things about Win8.1 RTM upgrade method.
Hopefully they'll iron some of that stuff out in the online upgrade thing.

umm you mean if i have windows 8 activated via KMS then added windows feature and upgrade to WMC using legit key and is now updated and activated since it still won't upgrade to activated win 8.1?
