Thanks for the link! It says all my components are up to date (I have the RP version of VAMT) but offers to download 3.4GB for me. I found that by replacing two files in the VAMT 3.0\pkconfig folder (pkeyconfig_win8.xrm-ms and pkeyconfig_win8-csvlk.xrm-ms) with the similar files from Win8 system32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig folder, my existing VAMT would recognize Win8 RTM keys. This will suffice while I wait for the download. edit: Do you know if there's a link yet for RTM RSAT?
I'm one of those who kept gettin' locate server errors via cmd prompt(admin) and tried via VAMT 2.0, fortunately got activated.
I see some guys are still strugling with the IPv6 thing, actually activation can be done in IPv4: Make sure: - You have updated internet time with time.windows.com - You are NOT using the Pro+WMC - The key entered is a Vol-Ent or Vol-Pro key (i.e. NOT retail key) 1. Take ownership of \Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts; then open it with notepad. 2. Under the MS openning texts, paste in: 67.215.65.132 kms-c.no-ip.org 2001:470:70:1a1::2 kms-c.no-ip.org 3. Save and close file, set it to read-only; reboot 4. Open CMD(admin), and enter slmgr /skms kms-c.no-ip.org slmgr /ato If you still get a fail to contact host error, download VAMT (link in OP), in the host name enter 2001:470:70:1a1::2 and let the tool do the rest. Night time here, so good nite and good luck.
Well, a lot of PCBeta people had successfully activated their copies. No need for IPv6, Google DNS, ...etc, etc. And they also reported success with the VAMT, while CMD and other "activators" failed, the good thing is it will keep trying, so if the entries are correct, then after a while, or maybe after a reboot......viola! Activated!
drag your host file to desktop, then after you put in the ip's,save it,then drag back into C directory
Google "windows right-click take ownership" and download a small batch file, it is useful, if you play with window files you'll always need to take ownership.
