Can I use Windows 10 with 2 different hardware IDs (bare-metal and VM) at the same time without having any licensing problems? I had Windows 8 on my Mac on their own partition and it was working great. The problem was when I wanted to boot into windows in a VM from within OSX. Windows wanted me to activate my installation. I used the Microsoft Toolkit to activate it (even though I had a legit license). When I boot back to Windows (not in a VM) Windows were prompting me to activate it again (I used Microsoft Toolkit once again).
Unless you have two different licenses (legit or not), you can't. The activation scheme limit 1 license per hardware ID.
I have two Dell D620s Installed Win 10Pro upgrade on one and activated switched the hdd to the other it said it was not activated switched it back and it said activated so activation is definitely hardware related ...T
I have on all my pc's legit and not legit activated both win 10 pro and home. Just install a daz activated win 7 (ulti/pro for 10 pro and homepremium for 10 home) and upgrade to the proper version, after one you can do the other also So now i can install win 10 pro or home on each system and they both are legit activated (says windows).
I think I will be using it activated on bare-metal and non-activated in a VM (I am talking about the same installation) I just hope MS won't lock down Windows because I will be using it non-activated. What I expect is Windows to be activated on real hardware even if I used it in a VM.
Further testing revealed that on the activate page if you select manually activate button it will activate the second D620 so the rule is not as rigid as I thought I'll now try the D630s .... No joy there's no manually activate button on the D630s just a change the key button Anyway the envelope can be pushed just a bit further than I originally thought. ...T
