Remote I would guess remote lies within the realm that includes: private, email, letters, give me your address and I will show up with pizza and beer. Monk
Oh, ok...someone said something about trying to help me by remote. The beer sounds good though. I think I've gotten way above my head with this. I am so afraid I'm going to do something and loose all my pictures and stuff on my computer.
To repeat . . . Rolling back to a stable system preserves your pics and allows you to back them up. Then . . . if you have the OEM disc, you can reinstall your OS which will not affect your pics unless you inadvertently format/repartition your disk, OR . . . you can apply workaround, OR . . . you can consult sites like MYDigital, OR . . . you can consult and PAY folks like Geek Squad, OR . . . . you could install a second HDD, put your OS on it, and then navigate to you original HDD where nothing will be disturbed and retrieve all your data, OR . . . you can remove your HDD, put it in a second machine as a slave and let that machine access and copy your pics and other important files and then format/partition your HDD and reinstall the OS, OR . . . Decide on a trusted source that understands your desire to preserve your pics and other data and, after that is accomplished, follow their advice regarding effecting a fully functional, valid OS. Monk
They would have no idea what to do. I will see if I can't make a script with everything in it that you can run.
Thanks to all I have managed to figure out a way around it by clicking on the link that says "You can also contact DELL by phone" After clicking, I really can't find any help, but at least I'm communicating with to some one. I have decided to find someone n the area I can hake her to. Of course if it sits a few minuets or I turn it off, it goes right back to the black screen. Y'all have been so sweet to me and I really appreciate it...it's just don't understand the lingo. Hugs to all, Karen
Hugs, did someone say hugs? If you would not mind: post back with the solution that worked for you. Monk
still there plus more Well, I kept clicking around and figured out that when I clicked on the massege that comes up on the black screen, I can get on the internet. So I still don't have an answer. While I was on the internet I decided to check my email....well ATT has changed their home page to Yahoo. That's fine, but It only transfered my primary mailbox, I can't find the others. So I've been busy trying to solve that. I am about to give up on computers...they just don't like me..
Also... I called Dell, after holding forever and pushing all the buttons requested, I finally got to the point that they asked me to have my credit card number handy!!! They charge for telephone questions!
It has nothing to do with dell they may have built the machine but it is up to Walmart. But in saying that you could ask on dell forums see if some one can confirm that.
Urie Thanks urie, that's a good idea. It seems as I have been researhing this, I am far from the first one that has experienced this. Walmart only gives a 30 day warranty on their computers. Do you think I should try to take it back to Walmart? What do I do with all my stuff on my computer? I don't want to lose it.
It's really up to you call Walmart see what they say as for your stuff on computer you will need to back up your documents e.c.t software can always be reinstalled there is no point in backing up OS system if it ain't activating.
urie I found several sites with information by Goggling "Dell Wal-Mart Windows is not genuine" This problem has been around a couple of years. There are so many ways to correct it, it's hard to figure out which one to try first. For me, they all look complicated. Like I said in my original post, I am not very computer literate. There is something about the software has ran out of certificates??? Does that make sense to you?
I don't know... I put things where I'll knoe where they are, then I can't find them! I don't hink the computer came with anything, I just don't remember. Also, I said in my first post that I had it 3 years...I think it's been 2. Anyway, if I click on that link, is that going to fix it? BTW thanks for the help
