How was it "pre-activated"? If you aren't using a BIOS mod (BIOS with SLIC 2.0 added) then it is likely using a softmod. MS is starting to detect softmods, especially older versions of VistaLoader, although it is part of the WGA detection which is being updated separately, not SP2 specifically. You need to find out what softmod is currently in use and possibly be prepared to re-install or re-activate it again after SP2. It really depends on the mod and how it works.

well i was able to update this version fully with sp1 on windows update. its on a small partition and i still have xp on another partition that i can dual boot.

do you know how to see what version or how it was "loaded"? maybe command prompt or something?

as far as sp1 goes im pretty content with it now, is there any real advantage to update to sp2?

In a previous post you said "i simply dl and install the image that was preactivated with sp1". I took that to mean the image already had SP1 slipstreamed into it. If you installed SP1 from WU without a problem then you can do the same with SP2.

Quite correct. I used VistaLoader before Service Pack 1. When Service Pack 1 released, I installed it on my Vista Ultimate x64 that was using VistaLoader, and it still worked flawlessly.

In Service Pack 1 they only blacklisted the most popular OEM key that was being used (or at least that is what I read at the time). VistaLoader didn't use that key, and thus VistaLoader never had an issue with Service Pack 1.
