    Hi,

I've just downloaded Visual Studio 2008 Professional Trial version and installed it. Everything was fine except that I can't put the serial number after installation. Normally I'll activate the product by going to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs then select the program. Then a window will appear where you can enter the serial number.

I was able to do that until Windows Vista. Now whenever I open that, the serial field is gone. Just Uninstall/Repair/Modify options are there.

Any fixes? Thanks for all your help.

I had this problem too. Here's how I fixed that:

There are 2 ways to do that:

    1. You can either change the .iso you installed from by doing this:

    • Open the .iso with an Image editing tool (like PowerISO)
    • Open the following file with a text editor: X:\Setup\setub.sdb
    • Find the line: "[Product Key]"
    • Change the key below it to the full version key (without dashes)

Now save the new .iso image and install from it.

    2. Or if you have already installed Visual Studio, then you can try this method, it's not tested by me, but it should work:

    • Locate the Visual Studio folder
    ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU")
    • Open the following file with a text editor: setup.sdb
    • Find the line: "[Product Key]"
    • Change the key below it to the full version key (without dashes)

This does not occur with the full Professional version of VS2008 :D
