hi medic thanx but i have already done this and replaced files from my copy with dell files for a friends pc and their disc is fine with my corporate version , but this dixons pc is a bit of a pig in a poke , would it be possible for me to use the retail untouched version of xpsp3 from here forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/17843-Windows-XP-PRO-SP3-SP2-OEM-CDs-32-bit-64-bit and use WINXP_MULTIOEMv2.1_by_sushil1576 with all the bios files put in to make the retail copy a multi oem or would i need to patch the retail version first to make it an oem disc
Maybe replace the pidgen and dpcdll files also with the OEMBIOS files. You can probably get these from the oembios changer. Just use the files from a backup done with the changer. Use makecab to compress them and put them in the iso. The serial in the .sif file from microsoft. It is in the stickies here..
I was recommended this by Daz to get a clean XP validation, but to be honest I am a little confused how to use it. Instructions seem to be a ittle sporadicly placed over various threads. Is there any simple step by step guide to follow I can use? Also, what winXP release/version should I grab to make the process as easy as possible? I also boot win7 (fro ma seperate HD) on the same machine with Daz's windows loader. This won't make any conflict with the modifications this makes right? Sorry for the noob questions :/ -Stigma
Stigma, what is your actual question here? How to use oembios changer? Identify your SLP string with oembios.exe 1.1, get correct oembios.* files for your string Place in the right folder, run it either in normal mode - if you just want to change to OEM or in safe mode if you already exceeded the trial period, follow the prompts, reboot Read the stickies, learn lots, Retail/OEM Win XP is what you need (if you get VL then you also have to learn how to convert it to retail) It bwill not affect dual boot in any way sebus
Thanks, if those are all the steps required then I think I understand the process. There is just so many other probably underlying details discussed inbetween the instructions that its easy to be a little overwhelmed. I have a fresh OEM installation. The first problem I encounter is that trying to run the test to determine my SLP string, the DOS window just the "windows xp oembios test... ect" just pops up and then closes after a short while without apparently doing anything. Does it log the result to a fiel somewhere or it it not working as intended? EDIT running the checktool from CMD to prevent it closing revelaed a little more: None of the 106 contained OEMBIOS sets will preactivate to your system. ERRORLEVEL 0 Does this mean I havea bad windows version to use for this, or a BIOS that I cant work with? /Stigma
How about letting us in on the specs of your computer. I would guess it is a custom machine..you will need to add slp to dmi or bios and use the oembios installer to activate..read and learn, the stickies are not that cryptic... Post the specs on the board, model, mfgr, etc.... Oh yeah...did I mention the stickies???
And that would be the pot calling the kettle black....read "false positive"......Thats a heck of a first post BTW...
clueless I guess I'm clueless. Been at this for days. I have managed to change my retail XP to OEM using oem changer. From RW Everything: Manufacturer - "MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD" Product Name - "MS-7211" Version - "4.1" BIOS Vendor - "Phoenix Technologies, LTD" BIOS Vension - " V3.5 " BIOS Type- Award BIOS /ACPI 1.0 But no Slic tables, says dump error slic tables not found ? When I run SLP check tool I get: E: HP & compaq oembios.cat crc-cd4e1902 E: no reliable under windows, tried in safe mode same result E: I used MSI-E0A0735C-Compressed oembios in changer is this the right file? Some help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi there I am trying to patch together how this works. I am a newbie. Is this the steps basically? 1. run oembios.exe to see which if my system is activatible 2. based on info returned by oembios.exe i down load the files from the oembios repository. 3. I use your changer in conjunction with these files to activate. Is that basically it? I have a problem though like the guy above i need to modify my bios I think as oembios does not return any hits. the info on my board is at the end of this message. It looks like an acer bios? can I use the HP slic that you posted in conjuction with a tool for acer bios flash? Is this only going to change part of the bios with just this bit of info? Thanks.
