I downloaded the newest vmware trial which is the same as yours and I still get the same results. Is there a tut on this so I can try adding it myself ? I also downloaded the Restorator 2007 trial .Thanks for all your help

    Hi,

I tested (and modified it specifically for) this on ESX.

You are probably getting a error something like "could not get vmx86 driver version". This is known bug in the newest version of vmware. The work around for this at the moment is to run vmware with administrative rights. You are likely to encounter this error message even if you are not using a modded vmware-vmx.exe. Here is a tut anyway.

Rename your modded vmware bios to whatever.res or whatever.txt
    Open vmware-vmx.exe in resorator.
Double click "binaries" and right click "6006".
Highlight "assign..." and you will get a single cascaded menu label "assign to..." and select it.
Select your modded vmware bios file.
You are done. Save it and have fun.

Let me know if you need additional help. BTW, the vmware version 6.5.1 does not have this bug.

Thanks Darren and Regina for all your help. My vm's are happy as can be this morning. The tut was so simple even I could do it. The rom file works on all my stuff including linux vm's that would not load on other modded roms.

The vmware bios I extracted from Workstation 6.5.2 seems to be structurally quite different from the one you used for this mod (although this is compatible too). Where did you get the original bios from?

The bios is identical for Vmware workstation for 6.5.*

Original bios can be found here:

    vmware-vmx.exe (6.5.0.4588) : 814C00-894BFF
    vmware-vmx.exe (6.5.1.5078) : 81D400-894BFF
    vmware-vmx.exe (6.5.2.7026) : 81FC00-89FBFF
    vmware-vmx.exe (6.5.3.8888) : 821400-8A13FF

For modded bios, pick any of the 6.5.* bioses that are already posted.

It only takes two mins to replace the original bios with modded one with a resource editor.

    x86 please

...unfortunately.. it seems that idea of "headers" is not very popular on this forum, so if there's instruction on how to mod *.exe it's hidden somewhere among many posts...
