Which resource editor do you recommend?

    C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-vmx.exe or C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\x64\vmware-vmx.exe?

    Done!

Thanks!!! work like a charm!!.. :worthy:

Copy one of the rom into the same directory as my VM and added the following line into the .vmx config file:
    bios440.filename = "<name_of_bios.rom>"

Used OpaTool to activate... FYI... I"m running WMware Workstation 9

Sorry for the noop question but why do you need a bios file for Vmware?

Sorry If this is a noob question, I've been searching for a while but all the information seems to be mixed up everywhere and I can't find a conclusive answer.

I want to install XP on VMWARE Fusion 5 on Mac OS X. And my questions are:

    1) Are these BIOS files compatible with VMWARE Fusion 5 or I should mod the original BIOS from my VMWARE install?
    2) Is there any simple guide on how to mod the VMWARE bios to include an SLP?
    3) Does the VMWARE bios really needs to be modded? Can't I use a OEMBIOS Set directly without moding the bios?

I think that are all my questions for now. I don't need info about SLIC. I'm just insterested in installing XP on a Mac OS X using VMWARE Fusion.

Can somebody help me pleaseeeee?:rolleyes:

    Thanks sebus,

    Just two questions:

    1) In your tutorial, what did you mean by "Use this VM to create AcpiTbls.rw". What's that? I undestood everything else. I just don't know what that step means.

2_ And secondly, once I insert Dell System into the bios by hex editing, I have to use the OEMBIOS changer tool using this? -> DELL (OEMBIOS.CAT CRC32=B6F0EEFD)

    1) Run the RWEverything utility in that VM, switch to the ACPI tab, then press CTRL+F2 - This will create the AcpiTbls.rw file. That file is used when modding BIOS with PhoenixTool.
    2) Yes. The OEMBIOS changer will insert the right key for you, too.

Ups... Thanks to Pajero then. :worthy:

And yes, I know that XP is old but for a Virtual Machine is much more lightweight than 7. Specially for a Macbook with 2GB of RAM. o_O

You want lightweight, then POS2009 is the one

Could be, but I prefer Windows XP for the sake of compatibility. And also because my native language is not English.

I was able to mod the vmware fusion bios joining all your advices together! Thank you all!

I had to install Xcode and then download the Command Line Tools to get the segedit command (yes, I know there must be a simpler way hehe. Specially because Xcode is almost ~1.6GB). That's why I hate Apple so much, because they make everything for retards. Why they had to remove the command line tools from the base install of Mac OS X?

Then I proceeded following Pajero's guide and using the simpler way (IBM Corporation route to avoid the hex editting :p).

Finally used the oembios changer tools and everything worked out on the first try. So.. thank you again guys!

Read & learn then... POS 2009 is just a better XP SP3 & comes with all MUIs

You can just download command line tools, no need for the whole Xcode (it is made by Apple as separate download!)

My bad. I actually installed POS 2009 and obtained the retail key following your instructions in another post. But when I was installing it VMWare Fusion didn't detect it as XP and I saw everything was in english so I decided to go for the known way (regular XP). And then, when I loaded the regular XP iso in VMWare fusion it recognized it and even made the install unattended. That's why I chose to stay with XP Pro. Probably a bad choice I know. Maybe next time I will install POSReady 2009. I've already have a key :)

And regarding the command line tools. You are right, you can download them directly using the Apple Developer website. But when I've found that information Xcode download was almost finished.

And for those who are silently reading this and are curious, here's a comparison between XP Pro and POSReady 2009.

PS: Yay! After this post I will be allowed to post urls! :)
