The SLIC brand doesn't really matter, you can activate any Windows 7 VM with the included DELL mod and cert. There's a how-to-use PDF included in the download, but basically: use the included DELL mod install a product key that matches the Win 7 version (keys are not brand specific, so doesn't have to be DELL) install included DELL cert (cert must match SLIC) activate Windows
SLIC can be used to activate Vista/ 7/Server, but not Windows 10. To activate Windows 10 KMS will work.
Yes, the Windows/Linux BIOS/EFIs are identical so you can use the Windows Workstation mods here. The procedure is also the same, drop the modded BIOS/EFI into the VM folder and edit the .vmx, for example: Code: bios440.filename = "15.5.5_BIOS.440_DELL2.5_SLIC.ROM" Of course, you need to install the cert and OEM product key in the Windows VM. This is explained in the how-to-use.pdf in the mod download.
VMware Workstation 16 Pro/Player | 14 September 2020 | Build 16894299 The BIOS/EFIs have changed for 16.0.0: BIOS BUILD 496 EFI ROM version: VMW71.00V.16722896.B64.2008100651 (64-bit RELEASE) EFI ROM version: VMW71.00V.16722896.B32.2008100651 (32-bit RELEASE) You can get the latest modded BIOS/EFIs on the first post.
Hello from Germany! II am a total newbie in this case, so pls pardon my absolute beginner questions... I got a DELL T3500 with SLIC 2.5 modded by @Serg008 and this mod is working great! Installing Windows Server 2019 using DELL OEM and Cert will activate the server ;-) Now I switched to VMWare ESXi 6.5 (latest for these old CPUs) and what have I to do now, to activate the Server 2019 on ESXi? Is it possible for the ESXi to "look" into the BIOS and use the 2.5 SLIC inside with the correct OEM key and Cert to activate W2019? Thx and best regards Peter
Hi Peter, Yes, you can do the same thing. Here's an ESXi 6.5 BIOS.440 (BIOS build 436) modded with the Dell 2.5 SLIC. Use the same cert. With ESXi I find it's easiest to upload the modded bios to the VM Datastore and then edit the vmx. A guide is here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/esx-esxi-bios-tools.12982/page-22#post-1502019 You'll need to install the cert and key in the Server 2019 guest. EDIT: I added ESXi6.5 Update 3 (BIOS build 436-b) to the archive. Let me know how it works out for you.
