What do you mean it works of course it will work. More to the point is bios version the same as in VMware Workstation v9.0.0 Build 812388 ?

Is there any way possible to cheat in order to use on VM x64 bit OS?
If I understood correctly the VM Player 5 supports x64 bit OS?

No need to "cheat". If you physical processor can run 64-bit OS, then Workstation will too

It took a bit of a mess:eek:. I was thinking that if I want to install x64 bit OS to VM and use it?

moving vm unto mac osx host causes windown 7 guest to ask for activation

Hi guys please I need some help.

I have a Dell XPS15 laptop that comes with windows 7

Anyway I came across this beautiful thread and though it will be possible to create a vm of my machine using my oem win7 disk.

So I followed the instructions on page 1 (...to use the dell SLIC bios ... ) and I was able to create a new vm which activated well...

Just to make sure I am not going to run into trouble later on I decided to copy (.. I mean move ..) this vm to my macbook and fire it up under vmware fusion 4, It now asks for activation ... :(

I thought this process was also meant to make sure that the vm should boot on any pc or am I missing something?
or am i to be using a different method of applying bios info? please help!

    cheers

thanks very much, I take it that there is no "easy" installer for fusion like this workstation version ?.

Could bios patched vm's stop working when new versions of vmware workstation/fusion are installed?

on a separate note, if I was to buy a retail windows 7 disk and then install and activate on workstation, will the vm need to be re-activated every time it gets cloned/copied ? ... or moved to Fusion?

    cheers

You still don't get it the VM itself is not patched it only contains the oem:slp key and certificate, it is the VMware bios you modify to add slic 2.1.

I am slightly slow on he uptake ......., so workstation/fusion needs to be patched for it to continue to work

Does that mean that workstation/fusion should only be upgraded when there is a working patch here ?

    cheers

Are you really dumb or playing hard to get?

Which part is too difficult to comprehend?

Ouch !, I thought the point of asking questions is to get understanding.

I bought a macbook and wanted to ditch my windows laptop but still need to run a windows vm for some applications that are only available for windows.

I asked the questions because I was not sure what exactly is being patched so I know if I can rely on my window7 vm working on future versions of vmware(without activation issues) or bite the bullet and buy a new retail win7 disc.

Use an activator. That is easy, for what you want to do.

    VMware Workstation 9.0.1 build-894247

Tested VMware_ManAuto_Selector_v315-339.exe on VMware Workstation 9.0.1 build-894247. Worked fine with no problems. My host OS is Windows 7 Pro X64.

Thanks sebus, I have not installed latest version 9.01-894247 yet managed to get Lite version has the bios been updated or is it still 361h ? Just holding back for the moment hopefully going to buy my first SSD drive this week small one maybe 60 GB just for boot drive. Mind you on saying that I have to use a sata port so I will be losing a smaller Hard drive 80 GB so may go for larger SSD.
