OK, I understand the matter activation but is problem that Bios Installer make crash Win8 at VMware 8 & 9. This tool is good only for Win XP, Vista and 7
The tool has not been updated to work with bios above v339 i,e since VMware Workstation v8.0.4 build-744019 ( hence the reason members are manually modding VMWare 9 bioses ) Even then to install windows 8 you need VMWare Workstation v9 and above.
is there any other Slic 2.2 except DELL[PE_SC3]2.2 other than DELL for example any HP , Fujitsu ,IBM with SLIC 2.2 and Certificate
P2V of an old Inspiron Notebook using this bios and Win XP Prof will work? Hi everybody, the LCD backlight of my notebook, an old Dell Inspiron 8600 one running Windows XP Prof from Dell, has died. I was going to convert the full installation physical-to-virtual (P2V), using VMwares standalone converter 5.01 and then run the VM in Workstation 9.01. Do you think that using your file will prevent me from running into troubles with activation? Edit: Is the 6006.binres file really a bios file? Can I do the following to have it used in a specific virtual machine: "Once your BIOS is modified according to your needs, locate the Virtual Machine you plan to test your BIOS with and copy your modified BIOS file into its directory. Then, if your modified BIOS is called myBIOS.rom edit the .vmx file to add the line: bios440.filename = "myBIOS.rom"" Regards and thanks in advance for a quick reply Moonstar
@urie: Thanks for the reply! Has anyone tried using a modified bios.rom by doing the following: "Once your BIOS is modified according to your needs, locate the Virtual Machine you plan to test your BIOS with and copy your modified BIOS file into its directory. Then, if your modified BIOS is called myBIOS.rom edit the .vmx file to add the line: bios440.filename = "myBIOS.rom"" Can I rename the 6006.binres and try to use it in a specific virtual machine only? I hesitate to patch the executable...
Yes you can just rename 6006.binres file that is the actuall bios file you can add it to .vmx file only problem with that is you need to do it for every dell virtual machine. You just need to make a backup of vmware-vmx.exe if you want to try editing it.
As it is only one Dell virtual machine, I will go for that solution! Thank you so much for helping! I will post back in about 1-2 weeks if everything worked fine and write a small tutorial. Regards, Moonstar
Two questions: 1) Would the bios440.filename = "myBIOS.rom" "trick" work with VMware for Linux as well? and... 2) If not, is there a way to edit/patch the main binary for VMware for Linux (Workstation 9.0.1-89427, latest available)? I've read through this thread twice now and several other threads as well but I don't see any specific mention of being able to mod/edit/patch the Linux binary to get SLIC 2.1 support. I'm on a Dell Latitude E6400 so if I could install Linux - most likely Ubuntu 12.04 for some learning/testing - and then use my Windows 7 Pro install media (from Dell) to use it inside VMware "legitimately" that would be awesome. If I missed the methodology someplace I apologize but I have done several searches over the past day or so and I just don't see anything specifically related to this type of modding for VMware for Linux... (if it's even possible, that is). Thanks...
I would just Install windows 7 on your Dell Latitude E6400 then install Workstation 9.0.1-89427 and run Ubuntu 12.04 as a VM.
Hey guys, i have Vmware workstation running some machines on it, i want to modify the Bios to Dell or HP brand for activation Purpose, however i readed the whole post here and managed to edit the Vmware-Vm.exe and deleted the binnay and add the 6006 Dell Binaary and saved the file, till now isn't clear to me how to apply the Bios on my Vmware machine after i edit the file Vmware-Vm.exe thank you
@cyberbot, you obviously have no idea what you are doing. In that case use much easier option for you: bios440.filename = "path to your BIOS file" in vmx file (I hope you know how to edit textfile?) sebus
