The answer is very short and simple - you may be installing a newer driver, but not the most correct driver for your system. It is likely that the manufacturer has made their own changes to your system and updated/modified the NVIDIA generic driver according to their specification.
If you download the driver via Nvidia's website, you will get a generic or base driver without the manufacturer's customizations and extras.
To avoid this problem, you should always use the drivers recommended by the manufacturer or accept that not all original features are available.
And remember that the driver needs to be updated only then, if it has some problems. So it is not decisive if there is also a newer version that is not fully compatible with your system. Then You should not update as long as it is also available on your computer manufacturer site.
In this case/your current case, it seems that Microsoft already installed the most suitable driver for your system and you should not update it because there is no newer and most suitable driver for your particular system.
So restore the driver installed by Microsoft or accept the missing options.

I guess your PC has two VGAs Nvidia + Intel, this adds a layer of complications, that generic drivers aren't prepared to handle.

So, just download the driver from the notebook maker (not Nvidia), or look if Intel (not Nvidia) has a proper Intel+Nvidia driver, or just stick to what WU provides, w/o messing with pointless updated drivers.

yes it has both hd3000 intel and nvidia dedicated gpu.
already tried the one windows downloads. the ones from dell 8.1 and win7. on 8.1 i can see all the other settings. but when ever i launch a game it uses intelhd300. and forcing to use nvida by right click or in nvidia control panel still uses intel hd300.

Many drivers for older chipsets have small glitches since windows 1809, given you have no hope that a new driver is released (the newest are from 2012/2013), is likely better to use LTSB2016 (or, if you aren't sick with updates, something among 1703/1709/1803).
