I know. Restorator works perfectly too. But somehow when a file is opened in his (can't remember the name), all images show like large squares. Didn't think it would cause trouble though, and used it anyway. He should try Restorator...
Just unrar the file. Inside are the png images. Just insert them as they are with restorator : open aero.msstyles with restorator (open...--> c:\windows\resources\themes\aero\aero.msstyles) then doubleclick the images folder on the left side. now you see all images, numbered as they are. rightclick the image you need to replace (f.e. 1021) choose "assign..." , "assign to..." then navigate to the 1021 image from the rar file. same with the other images. when done , save as... and save file to desktop. take ownership of current aero.msstyles (c:\windows\resources\themes\aero\aero.msstyles) replace it with the file on your desktop. When u follow these guidelines, it should work like a charm.
I didn't know you couldn't drag and drop, doing the correct method now! Used Restorator, the files from the RAR and the "assign" method. Used original aero.msstyles. It still does not work as the colored bars are now completely gone from the system, including the hard drive fuel gauges. I did "Save as..." after I was done. The modified Aero shows up fine on the system I did the editing on. I even opened it on the VM that I am testing in, and the blue shows up, but again the progress bars are now blank.
Very weird. Could you post your aero.msstyles again ? I'm sure it works, I have them myself... EDIT : Did you reboot ?? have to do that btw...
Oh I don't doubt you. I marvel at my own apparent stupidity--this seems so simple, yet I manage to NOT succeed every time. I even tried it on my laptop--same pure white bars.
It's trial and error untill you learn. That goes for me too, trust me Grab your file in my previous post. It'll work
