I must have really messed something up. I thought I followed the directions step by step, but, clearly I missed something. I ended up with the blue progress bars, but, the task bar went completely white, the start button looked like the old Windows 2000 style button and there was no thumbnail preview of open apps on the taskbar (text appeared, but, no thumbnails). I had to go back to the old aero.msstyles file until I can figure out what I messed up.

On the positive side, the blue progress bars look very good!

Well, it looks like there'll be no blue progress bars for me. I have followed the installation procedure three times now with the same result - a broken aero interface. In addition to the symptoms described in my prior post, the aero intreface is basically white anywhere the theme is used. It is so broken, that on shutdown, I am left staring at my wallpaper until I do a hard hold-down-the-power-button reboot.

Since installing the blue progress bars through the described procedure has worked successfully for almost everyone posting in this thread, I am left with the conclusion that my problems are specific to some unknown conditions or settings on my laptop. As much as I like the blue progress bars, I can't live with the side effects, so, it's green for me :(

Same Here dude. I am using vmware to test this and I have had no luck. Do we need that UxTheme program to use this genuine555?

Same for you too, bro. You need to patch your aero file before you can apply other colours. Use the package above. It has instructions on how to patch it. After that you can manually insert my images with restorator, or make them another colour yourself.

Haven't been on the computer, so sorry if my response took so long :(

No worries on the "delay" in responding. I don't sit on the computer all day counting the seconds until someone responds to my every message board post. :) I appreciate the fact that you pointed out what I should have already known had I read the entire thread. I assumed (wrongly) that what you posted was all-inclusive and failed to recognize that your work built on something else. I jumped in at the end of the thread without having digested all the good info in the beginning. Thanks for pointing out the error of my ways.

No worry's buddy. I hope you get it working, cause those green ones are friggin ugly, and remind to much of Vista.

I have not tried your latest version of the dark bars but I tried the earlier one you made genuine555 and it made all my bars be like they were clear or not there at all. Did I do something wrong?

Did you use the "Blue progressbars.rar" file ? It contains the Uxpatch for your aero.msstyles.

U need to patch it, before you can get it working.

Yea, I did all that and none of the modded bars work for me. This is on vmware just so you know. It just appears like there is no color added at all like they are all clear. Also the hard drive fill meter is not working either, just all blank dude. IDK if this is because of vmware but I wanted to let you know.

U must be doing something wrong. When patched, you can insert any colour for your progressbars. VMware should be any issue, as it emulates perfectly anything u would be doing in a real environment.

    Make sure you have :

    1. "Blue progressbars.rar" to apply the ux patch and make the bars light-blue.

    2. "Dark Blue progressbars.rar" to change the bars to dark blue manually.

Do you have x86 OS ? I can provide you with my aero.msstyles if you want...let me know..I'll post it soon as I wake up (it's 4am down here, need to go to sleep now :D)

He, tomorrow, just want to say thanx tou you for starting this thread. It inspired me to do the mods for different colours, and figure out the manual mode.

Hey guys, found a way to change the default window background colour without losing the aero style :

    1. Pick an aero theme to base your theme off (Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization).
    2. Make any changes you want to the desktop background, window (border) colour, sounds etc.
    3. Save your theme (remember the name you give it).
    4. Open C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\[themename].theme in a text editor (e.g. notepad).
    5. Scroll to the bottom where there should be a section called [Control Panel\Colors].
    6. Modify the Window=255 255 255 line to whatever colour you want (the values are red green blue, each can be from 0 to 255). As an example I use 240 240 240 to get a slightly off white grey which i find easier to look at.
    7. Save the file and reboot

    Tested and working.
