    You mean the aero.msstyles file...

You can't rename the original to .backup ?
Or you can't rename the backup file ?

    Don't quite understand that sentence...

Did you take ownership of the file before renaming it ?

Here's a reg file to incorperate the take ownership option in you shell menu (rightclick menu) :

    View attachment InstallTakeOwnership.rar

Doubleclick the .reg file and click ok, to add the key to the registry.
After that you can rightclick aero.msstyles and choose "Take Ownership", and rename it.

Do you have UxStyle installed ? It is neccesary to enable use of custom themes, and modify aero.msstyles

    As for admin rights :
Check in control panel -> user accounts
Check under your account which type it is. If it says ...with administrator rights, it's ok.

Normally if you take control of the file, it should enable you to rename it.
    Weird...

Rightclick the file, and click properties -> security tab
Click "Advanced" -> owner, and change the owner to administrators, and click ok.
Now check if Administrators have full control.

If "Trusted Installer" is in the main security list, remove it.

    Try again.

Now i try tonight i did a fresh install of windows 7 , maybe it is not working because its the german language ?

Did it a german user with the blue Bars ? and everything works fine ?

when i use the takeownership hack then i must rename the aero file or not ?

Yes, take ownership of the original aero.msstyles, and rename it to aero.msstyles.backup

Then copy/paste the hacked aero.msstyles to the same folder.

Did you use the uxstyle patch first ?

Hey. Thanks for quick answare. Yes, the uxstyle patch installed fine. And I can see uxstyle in the list of progs in controlpanel. Also the reg patch was fine. When I run the ThemeInstall.exe at last it shows an error about aero. Tried again, and reboot, but still green progressbar:(
