I've a prob on seven x64. When I try to install the theme patcher include in the first post, I got a bug telling me that it cannot access the network and then stops. Tried it by disabling the firewall and the antivirus, but nothing worked, I even tried with the latest version.
I had a similar problem... When I went to switch themes, I couldn't go back to Aero. When I tried to (re)install UxStyle Core, it gave me the same error. I had to uninstall first, then reinstall.
Lol does this mean something's coming soon? I want red bars. And black bars. And ice-grey bars too. (When the seasons change, so do the themes on my computers).
Not sure what I did, maybe I didn't RTFM or something but I killed my aero doing this, was able to restore it by restoring the original aero file. If you have any suggestions for me let me know. I first disabled aero ran the 64 bit installer took ownership ran the self extracting archive BTW, good work.
I did reboot but I may have messed somthing up. One question though. would it be possible to download a prepatched Aero.msstyles and the themeui file or do they have to be patched in place?
What do you mean by pre-patched? The file you downloaded should already have the modifed aero.msstyles (in the sfx file) with the blue progress bar. The uxstyle installer is so that you can run un-signed themes, which Vista & W7 normally don't allow. Previously you had to hack DLLs or use something like WindowBlinds. uxstyle is just a lot simpler to use and takes up far less resources than WB. Just make sure you use the right uxstyle and follow the steps. It has worked on every machine I've done it on so far. The only other suggestion might be to extract the aero.msstyles from the sfx rar (ThemeInstall.exe) and copy it in manually, which is what I've done on every machine. Don't see the point of an sfx installer for one file, plus I've installed different colours (i.e. pink bars on my daughter's PC). I guess it makes it easier for noobs but otherwise not much point....
OK, tried it again and doesn't seem to work. I was working with the black progress bar version. I will try the blue aero.msstyles file and see if it works.
Hmmm....I re-read your posts and was just wondering since you didn't mention it, can you confirm you are using this on W7, and not Vista? Also, after your install uxstyles (& reboot), check your services and make sure it is started. All my installs are x86 so I can't really compare with what you may be having a problem with on x64.
I have it working now. I uninstalled the uxstyles service and reinstalled it and everything works fine now. The black progress bar looks very cool. I am using X64 flavor. Now we had black bars for the drive capacity in Explorer. Thanks for your help and the black looks nice. Can you package the other colors into a single zip?
