But it's that my problem is the WAT update, becouse Windows remain activated, only the online validation fails.
So - WATs the verdict ? I didn't install it but I have a key so why bother ? Does it break any illegitimate activation methods - loader, SLIC mods, removeWAT, ChewWGA ???
I am really new to this so please have mercy. From reading through the thread, it is my understanding that the WAT update is mostly effective only against systems that use softmods to activate the OS. Background: I currently have a Dell XPS-720 with the SLIC modded by BusyBoy from 2.0 to 2.1 . I have Windows 7 Professional x64 installed on it. OS was installed using a legit Dell Win7 Pro x64 installation disc. My boss even let me have the COA sticker off one of the machines that we downgraded to XP so that I have a product key. (Didn't need it though. Install was seamless. No key asked for) My wife's computer that I am working on modding is a Toshiba A135-S4xxx series. Found her BIOS here in the forums already "adjusted" for SLIC 2.1. Going to load that one tonight. Then all I need to find is a Toshiba Windows 7 OEM install disc. Questions: 1) Do I need to worry about this update nastifying the installation on my Dell? 2) Does anyone know if Toshiba Windows 7 OEM install discs even exist? Is there such an animal or do I need to do some more research?
For the loader I can tell you things should be fine as long as: 1) You don't use the original Lenovo serial 2) You have a good SLIC placement 3) The SLIC and certificate match up well with your hardwares brand (preferably) For RemoveWAT I guess the name speaks for itself. It's purpose is to avoid WAT by blocking it out, it can't exactly do that job when people then install the WAT update which is pretty much 'AddWAT' and expect to pass as genuine. It's a totally different solution that's not targeted to ever make you look fully genuine I know I read about a few BIOS mods getting caught, that again could be the Lenovo serial, SLIC placement or brand matchups. So it's mixed results in all but most of the solutions seem to be working just fine still.
I think people HAVE to realise WAT is ongoing fluid process. It will constantly evolve. It sends to M$ a wealth of information about your computer, and M$ then can look at it, and make a value judgement as to what is legit, and what is fake. This is not set in stone. At any time, M$ can change the "criteria" as to what to look for in evaluating if a operating system is genuine. At present it seems M$ are concentrating on 1. Any activation with the banned lenova Ultimate key will get banned (this also catches early loaders) 2. the SLIC 2.1, Certificate and activation key should match up as the same manufacturer. (note NOT the manufacturere of the motherboard). If they dont match a good chance, althou not 100% it will be made non-genuine. This does not mean that the next time WAT phones home, M$ wont change the criteria, and say target a signature of a specific loader, or, refines the matching manufacturers tables. M$ will constantly balance how intrusive they can go, til false positives stop them. They may very well not go any further with WAT. But I doubt that, you dont release something like WAT, that is optional, and think the one release solves the piracy problem. There will be more to come. Bottom line is, all because your activated now, doesn't mean you wont be in the future.
Found the problem. The problem was that i changed the language with vistalizator, this cause the false validation. Now everithing is fixed
Has anyone been seeing a activation warning when booting up that says you are not genuine but WAT still verifies you as good online? I also noticed that I can click "Ask me later" and I still have my background along with the genuine sticker under "My Computer"->"Properties". Please anyone with any info please let me know because I have a valid retail key and IDK why my computer did that. BTW MGADiag also says I am genuine so IDK if it was a WAT bug or what but it is annoying cause I cannot find any logs or anything about the error at all.
Yeah, I'm not sure how well things will work when theres a mismatch but for the loader itself it will profile match your system the best it can. People using pre-activated ISO's such as the BIE release might be in for a shock at some point, I should probably add something to one of the posts in my thread about that actually.
Yikes, you mean all the people who bought "legitmiate" "activated" disks on ebay. The part that caught my attention was her identifying his computer model and when it was made. I have to tell you that I think that eventually it will be a bit tougher to pas WAT.
Not necessarily stupid. For example: I have licences enabling me to legally upgrade an old Dell Optiplex to Win 7 via Vista (which of course I never actually used) . The Dell PC originally sold with Windows XP, but works OK on Windows 7. I certainly would have complained to M$ in case of upgrade problems. I even think "upgraders" are one of the big problems for using M$'ses WAT technology: you can't check the legality of their operating systems by just checking its BIOS date.
Well the static ISO files contain a fixed SLIC, certificate, loader file and serial so if none of this adds up to the expected hardware then you could risk getting flagged. The pre-activated ISO's are an annoyance but what the buyer really needs to ask is "does it come with a serial I need to enter?", if the answer is no then it's going to be an illegal copy. Another sign for an illegal copy is of course "OEM" within the activation ID found in the system window.
