I ain't touching WU until I know for sure WAT is not gonna auto install on my system. Right now WU service is disabled and every set to no WO in notifications etc.
Deadman, I think that is going a little far, there are updates that improve system stability or other important fixes. If you don't trust WU then atleast look at the trusted updates sticky. BTW, I would run windows update, set it to notify but not install and if you feel the need verify the KB numbers before installing, I recommend that anyway weather you are running legit or not.
seems to be so few reports though of this happening from any mismatched hardware im not sure if this will change. i agree it *could* change. but as i have said and others are they going to want to mess with the flood of legit systems getting flagged. but so far it seems like they could care less and just try to blame it on someone else or the oem
im not sure how so many have issues with not passing. i have taken 4 test machines and done everything i could try as far as mix match slic, and keys. i have modded a bios with 5 different bin's and re flashed just to play around with then again mix matched the keys (of course matching that version but not brand) and over and over again it passes without any issues or flags thrown. i ONE time with the pre release had daz loader flagged though that could have been a fluke so i simply removed and reinstalled the loader issue fixed. now for those that used remove wat i cant say i did not use that and am leaving that as a last resort personally
agreed i never run a system with it in auto mode. another thought i had is with people talking about date. a lot of companys for months before win7 came out offered free upgrades to win7 most of them released a bios with 2.1 such as msi a while before win7 ever came out. this was a legit bios with oem 2.1 already in it no need to touch it. if ms is going to go after date they need to also be careful of these systems that got the oem upgrades. i have one and got the legit upgrade and if i check it reads as a oem activation using the supplied disc from msi i mailed in for. just a thought and even if ms tells every company to update their bios VERY FEW people i know will flash a bios on their own or touch anything to do with it. so they will continue to run the pre dated ones
Has anyone really been able to show that the original leaked Lenovo key has been disabled by this update? I tried it on my HP HDX 18 and it remained activated after rebooting, having already rebooted once before after installing the update.
If you go to genuine validation online it will fail with the lenovo key. The computer will still "Activate", just not be genuine.
Just don't install the update, all I did was hide it and that's it. I really thought Microsoft was going to label it something else, but nope, they clearly identify it and give the description. The update is really meant for people that have bought counterfeit software, that way they know they were duped. For people that already know they are running a cracked copy, hide update, done.
yes but ms has already stated this will be included in sp1 so then people will not have a choice, for now you do.
Hey, just an update on my issue strangely my other computer with the same retail key was untouched. I think it was just a mistake on M$ part because I already had WAT installed but it showed up on WU so um yea. Everything is still passing validation now so I think it is all good.
I think it was obvious at the start that MS would put this in SP1. They are just looking for beta tester Guinea pigs right now so they can collect more data to work with.
