This is an information gathering update.

The theory that MS is using this update only to gather information about 'non-legit' act*vations makes perfect sense. When they can deact*vate your Win7 with 99.9% surety in the future (after analyzing all the data they get from WAT, then more of us may experience problems down the road. The one's that have been deac*ivated already are most certainly the most 'obvious'.

I installed it, saw WAT calling home a few times in the past 12 hours, got irritated by it, and decided to uninstall and then hide the update. I'm still expectedly genuine, but I see no need to help them with their anti-piracy mission. ;) On a side note, I don't blame them for trying to protect their product. It's all part of the battle.

Me: Modded Bios w/ Slic thanks to NoJuan999. :worthy: My mobo manufacturer matches key, cert, and slic so I'm not very worried.

    Try this:
Install a different OEM Key (like the HP Key since you have HP SLIC) and re-validate online.

What's the starting point with BIE release?
I didnot have to deal with activation nor loaders till today.
Can I use a loader with BIE rls? If so, what loaders should I try.

The BIE Release uses a loader.
If you look on the ISo you should find a BIE (or similar) Folder that includes the loader and also an un-installer.
Un-install it and use the Windows 7 Loader by Daz v1.7.7r if you want to change loaders.

    OK, no BIE folder
    didnot found the loader
If removewat works for me (atleast it removed the nags), could I live with it? (In the sense of full Win functionality)

The only thing that is actually disabled if your Windows is not geniune (for them) is the ability to use wallpapers. You also get a bit more annoyed at life because of the watermark on the desktop and messages threatening you and everyone you love every now and then, I guess... so yeah, you can live with it (unless you, like everyone who uses computers, really like wallpapers).

By the way, I wonder how this forum is going to be in three months.

He said he uses RemoveWat, so there will be no watermarks nor the abillity to display wallpapers is disabled... but glad you took the time to actually read what he wrote ;)

thats not entirely true.....u get the annoying "windows is not genuine" message about 4 times in a row.

Anyways, thanks NoJuan999 for the PM. delete key by: slmgr /upk & slmgr /cpky. then ibnstalled it and rebooted. win 7 still said not active. went through online activation and no after several reboots all is good. thanks once again.

To those who want to learn about WAT, or have concerns, then you SHOULD READ ALL THE PAGES. Heaps of useful information on there.

Included in that is information on accessing WAT once you install it, and disabling it on your system so it doesn't phone home ------- or even changing the time it phone home from 90 days to 9000 days. So you can have WAT installed for SP1, but you control it.

Also if you fail a WAT validation test, you go non-genuine, and that cant be undone for near everyone, unless you use a legit key, or re-install from stratch again. Thats the risk of running WAT.

Is it possible to find which files were touched by the update and restore them from original ISO?
