I appreciate you perspective, as well as Hazar's, but I have a question. I'm just wondering why you were concerned many people may believe whatever Hazar is saying? It's as if you were suggesting that what he's saying about WATU is not to be believed or did I interpret your prior post incorrectly? LoL
All of this discussion precludes the notion of simply not updating Windows. IMO, there is no real need for users like us to be going there anyhow; until SP1, that is, which may well contain some useful updates. The way I see it, we are a sliver of the Windows user population; most of the 'exploits' discovered with Windows apply to the slack-jawed, knuckle-dragging users who simply haven't a clue; they still open files sent to them anonymously in emails. Sure, there may be some obscure compatibility update, but honestly, there is nothing in Windows update that will impact my Windows use in any way. My 7 is running fine and as I said, I, and many of you here, are not often victims of the simple exploit. I am running No Script, a third-party software firewall (as well as being behind a router), am seasoned with Windows, know how to avoid becoming a virus victim and cannot recall the last time a Windows update helped me in any real sense. Call me naive, but I don't see the big deal in all of this. Just don't go to Windows update for a couple of months until this thing gets worked out. Heck, even if it never does, then we are still good to go until SP1, which is still a ways away by which time, the picture will look drastically different. MS won't be so vigilant about this for that long folks; a lot of saber-rattling going on here. To wrap it up: it's good that they are showing their hand. The better of us here (Daz, Hazar, et. al) will find a way around what they are doing, but not until after MS show them how they are seeing us as valid/invalid. Put away that silly feeling of needing to go to WU every week; there is nothing of substance there anyways for folks like us. Enjoy your fully-functional Windows 7 experience and relax. Trust that there are smarter people among the populace of the MDL forums (why not? Not all the brainiacs work for MS) and wait for them to get their claws into this blip on an otherwise clear radar. A big thanks goes out to Daz, Hazar and to all the other folks out there making our lives easier. My personal belief is that a BIOS mod with maching certs will be the go, but the problem remains with the manufacturing dates of some mainboards. Pretty hard to convince MS that a mainboard made in 2005 is Windows 7 OEM equipment! hehe..... Anyways...enjoy the ride gang...good times, good times...
I wonder how low can M$ lower the bar for non-genuineness before it also starts calling legitimately installed PC's as non-genuine. Windows 7 is still new now. Wait until after few years and these pre-installed 7 PCs get repaired with hard drives being replaced, BIOSes being updated, etc. It could be a support disaster down the line if they are not careful, not to mention the lawsuits
see thats what i was saying from before. i think this is a fine line they would be walking to go to far with this and they are not going to want all the calls from legit users who get non genuine status from this mess if they go to far. as i said what if a manufacture released a bios that they simply updated with a slic. but maybe they did change the date on from when win 7 was very first released. so maybe they added 2.1 and the bios was from end of 2008 or beginning of 09 for a machine they were still selling with some updated hardware. i have seen this from dell before where a current version bios had a older date after flashing it. then what happens its non genuine because maybe dell released a new bios on the web site to fix the date issue (if there was one) but the end user didnt know or is not going to take the chance to flash a bios themselves. they get non genuine?? again speculation but this could be a legit complaint imo.. or maybe a similar situation. another could be someone buys said dell. the mobo dies within warranty. maybe dell replaces it with a refurbed board or maybe they bring it to have the mobo replaced at a shop. so they are out win 7 now because of hardware failure? again very vague ideas but they are legit concern sespecially from a repair tech standpoint. as i said i still see xp systems coming in non genuine at times and they are original never touched or modified at all. i simply use the tool from 911medic and the oembios files (i was lucky to download every last one and keep them as backups) to fix the issues for those people.
for all friends present in this forum , im having a small doubt. Just now installed the wat update pack on my win 7 64 bit... I have hard modded the bios with sllic 2.1. Now my properties page still says im activated.. Is there any specific way to check online to know the geniune status??
This assumes too much, IMO. MS are no fools and what is happening here is not about the keys, per say, but about how they are implemented. The WAT is clearly discovering the softmods - the loaders and WAT removal tools - and is taking action. I am not convinced that 'the keys' are even part of the equation right now. As for the 'they are going to upset a lot of people' argument; I don't think so. This is just wishful thinking on our parts - that they 'wouldn't dare' take the chance. Windows 7 is still in the 'making money' stage; once another 6 months go by, things will level out a bit. However, for us early adopters, we shoudn't be so surprised that these muddy waters we swim in are somewhat treacherous. The WAT will break all manner of softmods and frankenbuild validation schemes. Hardmods may be safer, but as I said, if MS can see hardware dates, then a mainboard made in 2005 is clearly not a valid customer. In this case, even a hardmod will not cut the mustard. I think I will buy a newer mainboard; cheaper than Win 7 ultimate!
good thing i have a compaq-cq40-310Au laptop. i will just do the hard mod. maybe i will fine with it.
251$ with the discount right now. lol you get 10 keys for EACH version of win 7 premium, pro, ultimate etc and 10 for office etc...plus 1 key for enterprise
yeah pretty sweet just from what i hear dont go wild and start dishing them out everywhere or they may kill your account and your keys.. if they catch you online giving or selling them etc..
Just wondering guys...a lot of us have WAT installed and still genuine despite various mods. So, in the space of one month (from unofficial WAT to official WAT), MS is going to dress up WAT to detect all our manipulations? Seems somewhat ambitious..
as to what i read and after i inquired, well i can use my keys for test purposes, and give to my family only.. hehehe
evil empire hear the cries of your people in bondage Here is my 2 cents. We all need a reason to justify using an anti-piracy hack. I have heard arguments here, some good, some bad. Here is mine. I used to fix computers for a living. Retired now. Since 2001 I repaired hundreds of computers with Win/xp on them. In my estimation I would say that less than 1% of the owners had the original win/xp cd. They either lost it, didn't get one (pre loaded), a million stories. But these owners were all legitimate owners of win/xp. The people who had the discs I naturally used them. The others, I would tell to call dell, compaq, sony, hp etc to get the disk. They would come back with horror stories of prices of $200, the manufacturer won't do it, told to use the restore disk, there's no way I'm going to stay on hold for tech support for an hour yada yada. So I made a slipstreamed winxp cd with a way to activate the OS. Everyone was happy, no harm done and away they went. That is what I hate about this activation nonsense. The evil empire is not hearing the cries of the people in bondage. When Win/98 was the top dog many people who built systems used the same copy of Win/98 on every computer they built. This was probably the main or definitely a reason that the evil empire developed WGA. Back in the day you could make a nice buck on a system build. Those days are long gone. Hardly anyone is building systems anymore because it's not worth it unless you're building one for yourself. If the evil empire needed activation it was for win 95,98,ME and the first year or so of XP. In my estimation it's now just a big pain in the butt. I have a legit version of Win 7 pro but like many here insist on trying to defeat this silly WAT. So Hazar, Daz et al you are our Moses. Free us from bondage. With your efforts maybe some day the evil empire will come to their senses (not centses). 2 cents over, Ka Ching...regards..
Ok people, anyone knows how to change mobo date. Mine is old Asus from 2005. I have a bios-mod matching asus slic2.1, asus cert. and asus key (used to have lenovo key but have change it). If WAT can see the date than I'm in trouble and I can't get technet or msdn keys as there's no offer for my country.
