Yes it DOES matter - WATU detection for OEM and Retails is different (I assume) - we trying to assess whether it detects bios mods! My guess is u'll become non-genuine at next phone home..
I did use office enterprice and it still needed patched files, but now I'm on 2010 beta. Hopefully 2010 rtm won't be to hard And I'm curious about what WAT will do with my legit vista install. I've dualboot vista + 7 with daz loader, the vista partition is the bootpartition and vista is activated with the key on the case (I guess it's coa?). I hope wat won't deactivate vista also because of the loader and the 2.1 slic in ram that doesn't match bios slic 2.0.
Paragon Free BackUp makes a perfect image on a different partition. You need a restore cd (pirate bay)
here is the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Activation Technologies\AdminObject\Store In this is a reg_dword called Totalvalidations. Its value is supposed to be 1 after WAT's called home.
so change it to 0? then my system has yet to call one time edit i do not have a windows activation technoloies there is the registry yet
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Activation Technologies\AdminObject\Store TotalValidations set to 0 and i think RunOnce to 0 also Then i started the WAT-Service via services.msc manually and it worked after i think 30 minutes
that is normal. it stops itself after the run is completed. Look into Eventlog, there you shoukd see if it has worked or not.
Somewhere at Microsoft there are people sitting at monitors, reading these posts and getting a good laugh at the hundred of posts on this subject. Just wait and see what happens, or if you're tired of worrying about it then buy your license.

Well, it is Tuesday at 1030 am, no updates available yet. Anyone see this on the official updates yet? Not that I really want it, I paid for 7 and don't really want MS spying on me every 90 days.
Ok, here is my test system: clean install of Windows 7 Professional 32bit (untouched MSDN iso) in VirtualBox installed OEM-Driver with Dell Slic + Dell Cert + Dell Key (32KD2-...) installed WAT Update from this thread.... ....all some days ago.... Today, I got 7 events in my event log with "Windows Activation Technologies" as source: 1. Genuine validation initiated. 2. Health check initiated. 3. Health check passed. 4. Genuine validation data sent to AVS successfully. 5. Genuine validation result: hrOffline = 0x00000000, hrOnline = 0x00000000 6. Genuine validation schedule created/changed. Interval: 129600 minutes 7. SLUI notification schedule modified. Schedule type: 1 ...restarted....still genuine....
that does not trigger wat though. did wat already run on your system? did you see if it said passed? if it did not run trying a download does nothing
btw. I just saw the 90-day-scheduled WAT task in the windows task scheduler....its possible to disable and / or this task! ...just for information...
