About everythig matching: I've got a MSI Board -> MSI Slic -> MSI Cert -> but the Acer/Gateway/Packard Bell Key because there is no MSI Ulimate Key! Will I stay genuine?
i was fine with an acer slic and the dell key. so yea it should work if not then i dont know why... because it worked fine for me
Well I've been lurking and learning here for months and I finally think I have something to add that might be worthwhile. About craftbrewers suggestion of disabling the wat "phone home" task: instead of disabling it (and perhaps causing unpredictable results with future updates/security checks), why not just change the 90 day date to something like five years from now? If I am still running the same install of Windows ANYTHING for 5 years, then something is drastically wrong. Another thought for those worried about matching Motherboard/SLIC/Cert/Keys...Most OEM motherboards are really made by someone else (i.e. Asus, Foxxconn, MSI, Gigabyte) so maybe the motherboard itself is not that critical. IF it turns out that it is, most BIOSes that can be modded to change the SLIC table would not be that hard to change the BIOS/DMI strings to fake a different motherboard (Hackintosh users have been doing it for years). Thanks to all of the knowledgable, helpful people here.
And people were wondering why Daz was not posting? Read the above message carefully, every line. Yen has already assured you that those who have modded bios dont need to worry, they just need to match things and those hardcore ones will get away with anything. For the rest of us who cannot or will not run the risk of modding the bios, Daz, Hazar, Orbit and others are always there. Hazar always has lots of ideas and comes up with different things. Daz doesnt need to say anything more, he has already made it clear at the start of the thread & here as well that he can do it differently and already has things in mind. Do we need to worry more? At least I won't, I just have to follow what Daz, Hazar & others say. Do I have any other option? Except have patience when there is nothing to do at this point.
Been skimming thu' the pages so forgive me if i'm missing something - Slightly off the topic.. Just wondered why is the English so bad - has Google Translate gone AWOL? @Hung-Kwan In the few weeks I've been here I kinda thought u were some M$ geek - maybe even Uncle Bill being clever at being stupid but WOW u are special!! I mean bios hashes included in a WATU defitintion???! Geez!! Bios' are updated every so often! hashes change all the time - u think? .. others suggested CPUID as a validation - nah! Even M$ arn't that crazy! all very interesting 'tho!! Anyway WAT unaffected here - Lenovo mod, cert and re-released key
@thanks2daz I totally agree ! @Whazzupsuperfly _ Yes english can be bad here at times but as long as we understand the message, that's quite alright with me. I think we should all listen to what Daz says and stop posting activation information here and anywhere in the web. We should just all wait and see what happens next and if we encounter a difficulty, an obstacle or what have you, wait for these guys to come up with a solution. We don't have to scream or shout woohoo if we pass wat. I think bios mods wil survive but people who resort to bios mods are quite few - in my opinion, ms is not really threatened by it. Bios modders are the elite, these are the techies and the brave. An average person like me would not be brave enough to risk killing my laptop. I believe the main target of ms would be the pirated discs being sold on the sidewalks of thailand, china, vietnam, philippines, malaysia, hong kong and everywhere else. These discs being sold are pre-activated or comes with the older version of removewat and several other loaders. This is, in my opinion, the main target of ms. It is being sold to average users that can easily install and activate w7. Believe me, only the techies and the brave would risk a bios mod and there are not many of them guys. Well, most are here though. hahaha
Yeah the mainboards are not made by the oems (mostly, I expect that asus use their own boards), but the bios is modified for the oem, and I think that's what MS will check when their checking for the mobo. i.e. I've an acer pc and everest says it's an xxxxacerxxxx board, at bootup it shows a big acer logo, but actually it's a foxconn board. The strength of daz's loader is that it has no commandline interface for use in pre-activating dvds => most people who buy/download a preactivated dvd are not using daz's loader => daz's loader won't be the first thing MS wants to take out. So it's up to MS what they want to do, use an easy detection for all loaders except for daz's (it's not that hard to take down unencrypted loaders), and kill 99% of preactivating dvds? Or do they want do use a hard and more risky method that may also take down daz's encrypted loader?
Agree - It will be a while before Daz loader get's nabbed - it's probably as good as a bios-mod! They haven't even taken down Omdhar's! For the moment they wanna target Windows file alteration hacks(they get kinda sensitive when ppl f**ck with their files!)
They (M$) have no legal right to access anything beyond the OS core, thats a violation of the 4th amendment - illegal search. I don't believe they will go there and don't believe that risky hacked bios's will be the only (elite?) avenue.
Much wishful thinking from those in the crosshairs. $th amendment, indeed. Call the cops 'cause he stole your weed. IMO, only BIOS mods are safe, and even then, there are ways to differentiate between SLIC-inserts and real-deals. This is the game we play folks, and the rules are clear: we want something for nothing, they want us to pay for their product. I think this will be a long, fretful venture, this free Windows 7 thing. Heck, I will probably end up buying the darn thing; I've had a free ride from MS before and since I bought XP and in the grand scheme, a couple of hundred bucks is nothing. A day's work for years of use is a fair exchange. Right now, I am enjoying 7, turned off WU altogether and see no point in updating until SP1, and even then, maybe not. Funny how folks here are so fretted about being legit when there is virtually no reward for being so, save a small icon in an obscure part of a single window. I am using Daz's loader, and appreciate his and many others' work here greatly. I predict that the game will be well-played by both sides; MS will do their best playing catch-up, a doomed prospect, but what else can they do? Daz and the boys will stay a half-step ahead, but if indeed you are worried about being valid, then I see a long, unending and worrysome road ahead. A great thread though. Many people showing all their cards, the silence from the ones who lead, speculation and hand-wringing from the masses and heaps of self-consoling and soothing, but ultimately empty words. Let these be some more on the heap. As the veteran poster whose name eludes me said: The sky does seem to be falling.
This topic is getting more & more off-topic, time for closing it? Pssst, ik heb het ook verstaan... English please!
