    Ulti, could you tell me how you upgraded it?
    I followed your steps:
    ok - extract the WDStorageSetup.msi
    extrakt the WDStorageSetup.msi with uniextract to an USB stick
    ok - edit the Whitelist.xml in the right manner
    I added line:
    <Model description="Enterprise Storage 2 TB" size="1907730" etype="constant">WDC WD2003FYYS-02W0B0</Model>
    how? --> install the usb Software on the sentinel
    when I run it from windows, it says abour locked files... Is there else way? When I try to "software update", it needs zip file... :(

    thanks

    Missing Step

    Before you run what has been extracted onto the usb stick you need to RDP into the DX4000 as Administrator then go to add remove programs and remove the WDStorageProvider then Run the WDStorageSetup.msi that is in the extracted files on your usb stick. This will replace the WDStorageProvider on your NAS and if you edited the file properly it will recognize the drive you added to the whitelist.xml.

    Hmm, it worked, but it is not adding my drive to the RAID... any idea? it is clean disk without partitions...

    I can only see the disk connected as separate disk.

    How many disks did you have in the NAS and how many did you add and are they all the same size?
    In order to have a Raid 5 array all the disks need to be the same size if they are not the arry will only show as a multiple of the smallest disk for instance; if you had 2 disk @ 2TB each and you put in 2 more disk @ 3TB each the raid array would only be able to use 2TB of each of the 3TB disks. or if you fifrst 2 disks are 3TB each and you put in 2 disks @ 2TB they would not be included in the array.

    the recovery ISO by WD ist building an recovery STICK, you can edit this stick BEFORE plug in to the sentinel in the Directory WD an edit the whitelist.xml
    the new one Looks like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!--
    This is a list of compatible drives for the SENTINEL.
    -->
    <WhiteList>
    <!-- Draco/Draco_RE -->
    <Model description="Enterprise Storage 500 GB" size="476940" etype="constant">WDC WD5003ABYX-01WERA1</Model>
    <Model description="Enterprise Storage 2 TB" size="1907730" etype="constant">WDC WD2002FYPS-02W3B0</Model>

    <Model description="Enterprise Storage 4 TB" size="3815448" etype="constant">WDC WD4000F9MZ-76NVPL0</Model>
    </WhiteList>

    the BOLD ist edited as extra to use 4x500GB Entp. HDD in the Sentinel

    every time the USB Stick is used to recover, something is deleted by the sentinel, so every recovery try Needs an new builded stick/Image

    regards ulti

    DX4000 Adding Drives not on the whitelist

    Hi Komanche,
    I can help you out with your problem if you answer the following questions.

    1.) What size, Make and Model are the two disks that came with the DX4000?
    2.) What size, Make and Model is the disk(s) you are adding to the DX4000?
    3.) How many disks are you adding to the DX4000?

    Once you answer these questions I can explain why your new disk is showing up as a seperate disk.
    I have sucessfully edited the whitelist and added two 3TB drives so I have a raid 5 with a total of 9TB of storage. I did not have to reinstall the OS just modify it.

    Hello Everyone, Im trying to add a WD Red Nas Hard Drive to my DX400 and have followed the instructions here but am still coming up with invalid drive count. Any chance you can look at what ive got and tell me if it looks right. WDC WD2002FYPS-02W3B0 WDC WD2002FYPS-02W3B1 WDC WD2009FYPX-09AAMB0 WDC WD3009FYPX-09AAMB0 WDC WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 Hitachi HDS5C4040ALE630 HGST HDS5C4040ALE630 WDC WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 WDC WD2000F9YZ-09N20L0 WDC WD2000F9MZ-09NVPL0 WDC WD2000F9MZ-76NVPL0 WDC WD3000F9YZ-09N20L0 WDC WD3000F9MZ-09NVPL0 WDC WD3000F9MZ-76NVPL0 WDC WD4000F9YZ-09N20L0 WDC WD4000F9MZ-09NVPL0 WDC WD4000F9MZ-76NVPL0 WDC WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 The only thing i might be doing wrong is the only whitelist files i can find are actually called WHITELISTK.XML and WHITELISTS.XML which i edited both with the above information. When i build the USB it dosen't create a Whitelist.XML till after i have tried it in the dx4000. The model number of the red is WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 Cheers, JAnder

    I am from india and getting the KIT here is simply impossible and buying 16tb is very expensive.

    can you tell us the step by step procedure to make it to 16tb.

    most probably RED hdd will be used.

    Thanks

    Sorry for necroposting, but this topic helped my research in solving this problem and saved my day, so I think I will help those who may have same problems.

    In fact, you don't need to go through all the problems with extracting the .msi file, then unpacking it, then reinstalling stuff.

    Just connect via RDP (or access the C$ share over network) and go to the folder

    c:\Program Files\Western Digital\WD Storage Provider\

    There you will see the whitelist.xml in question. Edit it and reboot the server, and that's it! No need for any reinstalls or whatsoever. Looks like WD Storage Provider parses it at each start up, not during install only (which makes sense why the file is there after installation)

    Credits and thanks go to ultiman for original idea.
