My Weather App is acting weird today.. It gives me live update on the screen and when I opened, it's just loading..
I hope that they offer also e-mail login for business. So that they sync for there profiles with the internal servers of the company or with azure, because i don't think companies will use live id login. maybe you could send suggestion via the feedback tool.
Install dies I have a reasonably new motherboard, lots of disk, RAM, etc. I have the latest BIOS and have even tried setting the BIOS to system defaults. But when I attempt an install it loads the files, displays the first splash screen and immediately croaks with: Your Computer needs to restart Please hold down the power button Error Code 0x0000005C Parmmeters: 0x0000000000000200 0x0000000005250631 0x0000000000000005 0xFFFFFFFFC0000000E While I am currently trying to install the Windows 8 x64 version I also have DVD's for the 32 bit version and Windows 8 Server. I have tried all 3 DVD's and they all give the same error so it's not a corrupted DVD. This looks like a HAL problem but I don't know what to try next to solve it. I don't have any wierd hardware, in fact this PC is pretty plain vanilla. The disks and the DVD drive are all SATA, and I can run Windows Server 2008R2 on it just fine. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions of something I might try?
About the only thing that comes to mind is to try making a USB based installer using Windows 7 USB Download Tool. Other than that sounds like you got some really incompatible hardware, might be SOL. It would help if you posted specs like Chipset, CPU, GPU etc.
Mine wasn't working earlier either, killing it in taskman didn't fix it either but a restart did it for me.
wow, that's interesting. I've notice App hangs and I just kill them in Task manger and restart them. weird you have to reboot.
Thanks for the quick reply Reelfiles, Specs are: ASUS P5E WS Professional Core 2 Extreme X6800 3Ghz 8GB Crucial Dominator RAM Northbridge X38 Southbridge ICH9R PC Power and Cooling 750Watt Power Supply Nvidia Gforce 9600GT 512MB Display Adapter 3 Western Digital SATA drives 750GB each Microsoft Mouse, keyboard, etc. I can run a Windows 7 install DVD and it works just fine. I wonder what is so unique about Windows 8 that it dies right at the start.
I don't know man, that system doesn't seem like it has anything unusual about it, it should work fine. Maybe double check that your drives are set to AHCI in BIOS and possibly try an IDE optical drive if you don't have a big enough USB drive to use as installation media. Obviously no overclocking while installing and the last resort would be to run memtest on the RAM.. far fetched but just maybe Win 8 is just a bit more picky about RAM, might have to manually enter the RAM timings if your mobo doesn't detect all the right settings on AUTO.
OK, well thanks for your time. I will try checking the memory but it dies so quickly I just don't think that's it. I set the RAM to 800Mhz (usually runs at 1066) and that didn't help. I just tried installing from a USB stick and get the same error. I just may wait for the next release or the beta.
That sucks man, be sure to let us know if you figure out what the problem was. Just found another little security feature: I installed Windows Live Movie Maker and Photo Gallery and I got a security popup telling me Photo Gallery used my location data. It gives only one option; to view the location in Event Viewer. I thought there would be a way to clear the log from there but nope no Clear Log option for it :/ Finally the message goes away after restarting the PC.
Tried all of that. I even unpinned it and pinned again. Launch it from the application folder but to no avail.
It seems like m$ is playing and messing with us at the other end, some time they work, some time they don't.
hey, check this out,WDP refused to install through my dvd drive which is sata not ide, then i tried a regular ide dvd drive and it installed ok,then after i connected my sata dvd drive, while on WDP,it refuses to detect my sata dvd drive in "my computer",but it recognizes my ide dvd drive
Yesterday I uninstalled WDP because I damaged my old laptop--added more RAM but my motherboard does not support--and then installed again ...found this: when the install was almost complete...I login with live account...finally i found my last theme( i downloaded a theme before the uninstall) inside and my name and usertile(choosed before the uninstall)...and all the settings....untouched....that means that WDP is a Live OS? I just wondering because with instalation I just formated HDD....
I have an Asus HD3450 AGP and no problems here Using Catalyst 9.2 AGP Hotfix and installing through device manager.
Windows 8 has LiveID syncing, it will sync settings to the Cloud and whenever you login on a different PC you get the same settings.
