?

Will your next car be electric?

  1. My next car will be electric

  2. I’ll wait several years for prices to drop

  3. I’m not convinced by them, I’ll buy conventional

  4. I am undecided, far more info is required

Battery Technology needs improvement, very expensive to replace a failed battery.

    Every tech needs improvement.

The thing is: one can't stop science and tech from improving...

Renault and EEM create first “smart island” in Porto Santo

Groupe Renault, European electric vehicle leader, and EEM Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira, SA, which produces, transports and distributes and sells electricity on the two inhabited Portuguese islands of Madeira archipelago (Madeira and Porto Santo), announced the launch of a smart electric ecosystem on the island of Porto Santo.

The government of the Autonomous Region of Madeira will roll out an innovative programme in Porto Santo, known as Sustainable Porto Santo – Smart Fossil Free Island, to facilitate the energy transition. EEM, which is in charge of the programme’s energy and electric mobility, has chosen Groupe Renault as its partner for electric mobility solutions.

This world-first smart island uses electric vehicles, second-life batteries, smart charging and V2G to boost the island’s energy independence and stimulate the production of renewable energy. Groupe Renault, EEM and their partners have been working since the beginning of the year on this project, which is expected to last 18 months.

    Here's some real progress:

Energy storage leap could slash electric car charging times
Development of new material for supercapacitors has potential to raise range to that of petrol cars

    Mon 26 Feb 2018

Researchers have claimed a breakthrough in energy storage technology that could enable electric cars to be driven as far as petrol and diesel vehicles, and recharge in minutes rather than hours.

Teams from Bristol University and Surrey University developed a next-generation material for supercapacitors, which store electric charge and can be replenished faster than normal batteries.

This could allow cars to recharge in 10 minutes, rather than the eight hours it can take to replenish the lithium-ion batteries in current electric vehicles.

The technology has sufficient energy density to comfortably surpass the 200 to 350-mile ranges of leading battery-powered cars such as Teslas, according to its backers.

The guardian says "Here's some real progress:"

Think about the physics of this process
You can take the energy out over more than 200 to 350 miles of car use.

You can put it all back in in 10 minutes
How many Megawatts of the UK power grid must be devoted to this

I've got a bridge in lower Manhatten for you to buy with the spare change from this process.

It would be best for all if they used wireless charging tech (charge by induction) that was built into the road, so you could drive endlessly with out worrying to make any stops to recharge.

There's already a test piece of roadbed in France for the purpose of investigating wireless charging
there was a picture and a short report of it last year in E&T Magazine , the monthly publication of
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)

amazing what google can do for one

this is not the one I was thinking of , it's referred to though in the last para

Well tonto's link did show something else, and that the U.K. needs more than others have been posting about those EV advances
And if the electric is free... then it's almost stupid not to use wireless charging. Now if they use "charging stations" that would will allow for future fees to recharge

"Getting their grip on..." is not exactly the same as "being fully ready" when the s**t hits the fan, is it?

Never heard of "cyclical crisis" in Capitalism? Even the latest ones?

Shoot, you seem to have lived on Mars or summat...

    Perhaps you should start studying...
