AIR Unveils AIR ONE eVTOL for Individual Ownership

AIR, creator of personal eVTOLs for the consumer market, unveiled its debut vehicle, AIR ONE, and announced it is now accepting pre-orders. AIR ONE is a sporty, easy-to-operate electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for individual consumer ownership.

As the eVTOL industry gains traction with a primary focus on air taxis and other urban use cases, AIR puts the freedom to fly directly in the hands of consumers with its sleek and playful AIR ONE vehicle intended for adventure, fun, and day-to-day flying by consumers. Infused with a spirit of adventure, AIR's aim is to enable mass production of vehicles and accelerated integration of advanced air mobility into society on both a commercial and personal level. For further information see the IDTechEx report on Air Taxis: Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft 2021-2041.

"The future of mobility is in the sky, but to get there we need to build consumer confidence in eVTOLs as a legitimate mode of everyday transport and develop vehicles on a mass-scale to bring that vision to life," said AIR's CEO and Co-Founder Rani Plaut. "AIR ONE is our hat in the ring, simultaneously showing consumers the first in a line of diversified, playful models for personal flight and demonstrating cutting-edge technology that will enable high-volume production and scalability."

The company's inaugural vehicle is an all-electric two-seater eVTOL that offers a range of 110 miles on a single charge at speeds up to 155 miles per hour, with a flight time of one hour. AIR ONE prioritizes everyday practicality for consumers with collapsible wings for easy parking and its ability to take off from or land on any flat surface.

At the heart of AIR ONE is the company's 'fly by intent' software, which manages complex functions and navigation, so that usage isn't restricted to highly skilled pilots and trained professionals. Additional safety features include an AI-enabled monitoring system which does frequent inspections of the vehicle and eliminates checklists for riders to ensure paramount safety, even for riders with minimal training.

Based on technology and manufacturing techniques from the automotive and aerospace industries, AIR ONE is designed from inception to be a fun, safe and practical vehicle that adheres to aerospace standards and regulations. To this end, AIR is currently working with the FAA to obtain G1 certification.

Going big and cleaner in maritime traffic now: https://www.electricvehiclesresearc...rlds-first-emission-free-high-speed-catamaran

World's First Emission-Free High Speed Catamaran
    [IMG]
Stockholm-based Echandia has signed an agreement to supply the world's first emission-free high-speed catamaran with an integrated battery and hydrogen-based fuel cell system. The client is Green City Ferries AB and the ferry is planned for commercial traffic in Stockholm. The installation will take place in the autumn of 2022 and the agreement is worth approximately SEK 14 million for Echandia.

Echandia is a world-leading developer of advanced battery and fuel cell systems for maritime electrification. The agreement is for the Beluga24 model, which is designed by Teknicraft in New Zealand and the Italian Studio Sculli and is built in carbon fiber by Green City Ferries north of Stockholm. The high energy efficiency of Echandia's integrated battery and fuel cell systems requires less hydrogen, which saves a lot of weight, and the battery part is significantly lighter than competing solutions.

If you look at public transport in Stockholm, the fleet of vessels accounts for circa 5 percent of energy consumption but about 50 percent of carbon dioxide emissions annually (according to Båtplan Stockholm 2025). Green City Ferries' goal is to switch to emission-free and fast waterborne transport in the world's cities. The start for this takes place in Stockholm with support from Klimatklivet and EU. Before initializing final production stages, Green City Ferries will secure additional external financing.

Magnus Eriksson, CEO, Echandia, comments "Sweden has been lagging behind internationally when it comes to electrifying shipping, but now the pace is increasing here as well. We are proud to be a part of this project that not only contributes to reducing emissions from Stockholm's waterborne local transport but is also the first in the world with an emission-free high-speed catamaran. The ferry will be equipped with an integrated system with both batteries and hydrogen, which is significantly more energy efficient compared to solutions with separate systems."

Fredrik Thornell, CEO, Green City Ferries, comments: "We are very pleased to collaborate with Echandia in this groundbreaking project, which we see great interest in globally. We will build a completely emission-free high-speed catamaran intended to operate in Stockholm's waters. Echandia is the perfect partner for that. Compared to other tenders, Echandia's solution means significantly lower total weight with high safety."

John Deere Reveals Fully Autonomous Tractor
    [IMG]
John Deere has revealed a fully autonomous tractor that's ready for large-scale production. The machine combines Deere's 8R tractor, TruSet-enabled chisel plow, GPS guidance system, and new advanced technologies. The autonomous tractor will be available to farmers later this year.

The autonomous tractor serves a specific purpose: feeding the world. The global population is expected to grow from about 8 billion to nearly 10 billion people by 2050, increasing the global food demand by 50%. Furthermore, farmers must feed this growing population with less available land and skilled labor, and work through the variables inherent in farming like changing weather conditions and climate, variations in soil quality and the presence of weeds and pests. All of these factors impact a farmer's ability to farm during the most critical times of the year. For further information see the IDTechEx report on Agricultural Robotics Market 2022-2032.

The autonomous tractor has six pairs of stereo cameras, which enables 360-degree obstacle detection and the calculation of distance. Images captured by the cameras are passed through a deep neural network that classifies each pixel in approximately 100 milliseconds and determines if the machine continues to move or stops, depending on if an obstacle is detected. The autonomous tractor is also continuously checking its position relative to a geofence, ensuring it is operating where it is supposed to, and is within less than an inch of accuracy.

To use the autonomous tractor, farmers only need to transport the machine to a field and configure it for autonomous operation. Using John Deere Operations Center Mobile, they can swipe from left to right to start the machine. While the machine is working the farmer can leave the field to focus on other tasks, while monitoring the machine's status from their mobile device.

John Deere Operations Center Mobile provides access to live video, images, data and metrics, and allows a farmer to adjust speed, depth and more. In the event of any job quality anomalies or machine health issues, farmers will be notified remotely and can make adjustments to optimize the performance of the machine.

The fully autonomous tractor is able to run 24/7, and it only requires a service stop for refueling about every 8 - 10 hours.

    New solutions to old problems...

    https://www.electricvehiclesresearc...l-materials-improve-electric-vehicle-chargers

For its part, Henkel has designed a select, proven collection of sealing, potting and thermal management solutions that provide the automation-friendly features required for mass production and deployment, along with the in-field attributes of ruggedness, safety and reliability necessary to bolster consumer confidence. Materials in Henkel's EV charging portfolio include:
    • Thermal interface materials for secure safe and reliable operation - Effectively dissipating heat - whether from 220 Volts or 1,000 volts - delivers the safety and long-term performance necessary for EV charging devices. Henkel's trusted Bergquist® brand phase change, GAP PAD and gap filler thermal interface materials (TIMs) help maintain stable operation of EV chargers' power modules and high-density components.
    • Gasketing and sealing to defend against damaging contaminants - Exposure to changing environmental conditions, moisture and dust can damage sensitive components and reduce their operational life. Henkel sealants and Sonderhoff formed-in-place-foam-gasketing (FIPFG) technology offer customized, mass production solutions to shield internal systems from harmful contaminants.
    • Tough protection with high-performance potting formulations - As the interface of charging power to the EV battery system, the reliability of charging connectors is critical. First Fully Operational Airport for Urban Air Taxis to Open in UK
    [IMG]
British start-up, Urban-Air Port Ltd (UAP), announced it has secured investment from Supernal, previously the Urban Air Mobility Division of Hyundai Motor Group, to deliver on the companies' shared vision of integrating advanced air mobility (AAM) into existing transit networks and creating a seamless passenger journey. The funding will help support UAP's plans to develop 200 vertiport sites across the world in the next five years.

UAP's vertiport sites will provide essential infrastructure to help enable mass adoption of eVTOL aircraft - such as cargo drones and air taxis - as public acceptance grows and will transform the way goods and people are transported around urban areas. The world's first fully operational hub for eVTOLs, Air-One, will open for public visitation in Coventry City Centre in April. The demonstration will show how AAM can help unlock the potential of sustainable mobility and how the industry will work to help reduce congestion, cut air pollution and decarbonise transport.

There's one question no one wants to answer. How is the average Joe going to finance the shift from fossil fuel to electric?
The new (or new used) electric cars cost a pretty penny and, no one is going to buy your old ride as it is no longer legal or the fuel is so heavily taxed the result could just as well be the same.

I love EVs. Silent, fantastic grunt (for the most part), pollution-free propulsion, at least whilst consuming the energy. The manufacturing of electricity isn't always (rarely?) environmentally friendly.
And there's an additional problem that needs to be solved. Infrastructure for charging and production of electricity. The future needs far outstrip the available capacity and will in the foreseeable future.

Other than these small questions/problems. Bring on the future.
