We've all been there. Can someone explain just what exactly is going on during this interminable delay after logging in for the first time after a new build? Any tips to make it faster?
I don't know, but I'd guess it's user profile migration stuff that needs to run per user/in user's context. Just an idea, may work or not: You might try to enable automatic logon before a build upgrade, maybe it stays on through the process and you'll get a completely finished upgrade automatically.
Most malicious software can load up a key logger and adware instantly, but Windows 10 has to be slow and take their time at it
There is a long delay on first logon practically on any OS, given user home is actually created from the skeleton, on the first logon, not when you add the user. W8-10 the matter become worse because they have to install all the metro crap which is all selfcontained on each user directory, not shared like the real programs. Just use the real LTSB, a ghetto LTSB, or Server 2016 and that phase will last few seconds, just like in W7. No metro crap, no delay.
When it is doing it's Hi hello bull$**t at first log in, simply press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then click on cancel. You are taken straight to desktop. You will notice that there are no taskbar icons pinned and desktop looks not-ready. After a minute, you will get another bull$**t notification where it is searching for display driver. That means windows has finished it's first loading. But you can totally use Windows the moment you see the desktop even if it has not loaded fully with all the MS fluff.
