I'm looking to play some new games, but I'm not sure what my laptop can handle. My system is probably not the best, but I'm hoping it can handle some new games. Dell Inspiron 7577 Intel Core i5 7300HQ 16.0GB DDR4 RAM Dell SE2717H/HX 27'' Monitor (1920x1080@75Hz) Intel HD Graphics 630 (1GB) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design (6GB) Samsung M961 NVMe 256GB (SSD) (OS Drive) Seagate ST2000LM007-1R8174 2TB (SATA) (Games Installed Here) Western Digital WD My Book 25EE External Drive 8TB (x2) (Storage And Backups)
If you're going to store your games in a separate storage drive, you should replace your laptop's Seagate SATA hard disk drive(HDD) with a SATA solid state drive(SSD). Your laptop has a pretty decent NVIDIA graphics device, but I doubt its Intel processor will have the horsepower to play modern games. Your laptop's Samsung solid state drive(SSD) has a very impressive performance rating, so it's unfortunate that it has a small capacity and your games can't be store there.
Make sure to go into NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings and select your NVIDIA processor as your preferred graphics processor.
I do that on every single program that I install if windows will let me. Is GeForce Experience needed?
My plan is to eventually get a 1TB nvme so I don't have to store my games on a separate drive. Since the processor is the issue would upgrading to the motherboard with the i7-7700HQ make a difference?
