sorry about being so late - Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.3 with relative updates i didn't notice that and i do care about my internet connection
I am using SEP 12.1.2.2015 and it kept rolling back on me too and would not install. I disabled Windows Firewall and Defender and it installed without any problem.
that's about it you can install SEP starting from version 12.1.2 but you get updates immediately and of course late versions work even better
This version didn't work in my PC , it said couldn't load the drivers. And I noticed Symantec said the next RU (RU4) will support windows 8.1
Bitdefender Internet Security Build number 17.16.0.729 fully updated : running flawlessly on Windows 8.1 Pro with WMC. Changed its settings NOT to auto-delete threats and stuff, because of "false alerts" .. My decision to install this product was mainly based on independent AV companies results, that rank Bitdefender Internet Security among the best suites ... So for now, as i am a big Kaspersky fan myself, we have to get used to "second hand" security suites

Arguing which security method is best is like arguing which medicine is best for a broken leg. The best medicine is always AVOIDING getting your leg broken in the first place. What you should be wondering about is stuff that can help you avoid getting malware in the first place. Sandbox programs are good at this. You can run suspicious stuff like keygens or supposed portable versions of programs. A sandbox won't let the programs have any access to your actual registry or program files. All anti-virus programs are a false sense of security. There will ALWAYS be newer malicious software that goes undetected.
I haven't ran any suspicious software in quite some time, but I remember using Sandboxie worked well. You could probably search for various sandbox programs.
