Avira completely denies access to any crack/keygen or other malicious programs thereby negating any possibility of further infection whereas other AV's quarantine/delete them & it has an excellent scan engine which is really fast as well. But in terms of detection/features/resources used there really is little to choose from the likes of AVAST, AVIRA, ESET, NORTON, KASPERSKY which in my opinion are the best out there.
Most of them won't for some time dude. Even though we have Office 2010 RTM, it officially does not release until later this month. I would expect most major Security competitors to support the whole office suite in 1-2 months though, I would just sit tight and wait. Kaspersky does have a toolbar in Outlook 2010 but it does not work like it's supposed to. Basically nothing more then another button to say "Spam" or "Not spam," no auto-guard.
I have a C:\, a D:\, and a E:\ The C:\ contains Windows and my programs that doesn't need really to get updated (WLM in example). This C:\ is protected by Deep Freeze, so i never touch it. My D:\ is a kind of extension of my C, but that is not protected by DeepFreeze: It contains my moved "Users" Folder, a second Program Files (The programs that i update often (Firefox, Avira, etc), my Games. And my E: contains my Downloads, my Ghost Images, the Backups of my firends when i format their PC. Every month, i disable Deep Freeze to be able to update Windows and install programs that needs a reboot. With the Users folder not in the C:, i can change many settings in my account without the need to reboot, so it's good.
I've used about all of em and I would have to say MSE + Comodo works out to be about the best solution. MSE is light enough in that it has negligible impact on performance, meanwhile providing very Solid detection (I prefer my av/malware/spyware detection to use Known solid data for detection as opposed to heuristic guesswork that is more often Wrong than not), meanwhile providing very few false positives. Comodo is also very lightweight and I use it primarily for its sophisticated outbound (leak prevention) rules (as my hardware firewall via routers NAT provides most of the inbound protection).
all you need is windows default firewall + security essentials. if there are more you need, they are common scenes + training!! NOT a $50 annual subscription of some bloated crapware suite that claims to protect you!
Does Kaspersky IS have a downloadable virus definition file. Could not find it on Kaspersky site. MSE has it and I find it useful to quickly bring it up to date after an install. Otherwise, the present definition size is close to 51 MB and can take some time on a 750 kbps broadband. I have a KIS licence till Oct 2010 but not using it now. On a side note, which major AV suites have this downloaded definitions facility.
Avast 5.0 Home Edition (Free) Threatfire (Free) Malwarebytes (Free) SuperAntiSpyware (Free) SpywareBlaster (Free) Online Armor Firewall (Free) Router Firewall (Free) Proven protection. Nothing better hands down. Even this is overkill.
You are Joking i hope not all installed on your system at once for myself avast free windows firewall and Malwarebytes though very rearly i get any hit avast doe's it bit. MSE i tried it very good considering it is free, and the way i look at it if MS supply an OS system then at least they should make it secure i,e MSE free now but not at one time.
ROFL, how many software protection does he want?! LOL Seriously though I have MSE Installed on virtual box and threw a load of viruses at it, and well it still works lol MSE isn't really that bad it's actually good lol
Sweet Jesus thats over kill its like taking Chuck Norris and pitting him against a midget lol.... But yea thats so over kill cause your probably slowing your machine down right now... If you have all of those on there at once uninstall all but 2 and you'll be good to go hell windows has its own thing anyway... PS sorry for the midget joke...
