Hmm... that's still much like Option 1 but add an imaging backup fallback or reinstall if Option 1 is such a drag and then do Option 4 (not install). Counts as 2 votes for Option 1 then !
Not really, I say 1 and fix what it does because we know that in the future there may be some silent update slips in and bombs your stuff. In other words, make sure that you are running right. The fallback option is only there to drop back and figure out WTF? and how do I fix
Why would we do that ? Just stupid for a pirate to install this WAT update if you dont have to.. Just hide and "forget bout it".
Exactly. Tried it once just on a spare installation just out of curiosity to see if it passed, which it did, then erased the partition again. This update does nothing for you, aside from just being a useless thing that's running. Nobody's forcing you, nor do you lose any functionality by not having it. Even if I was using a legit key, I wouldn't put this POS on my system. Just like XP's WGA; hide it and forget about it. Had it hidden on my old XP installation for a couple years, and not once did I miss having it.
It seems that based on the experienced and experts Windows 7ers here, the recommended way to deal with Windows KB971033 WAT update is : Hide it, don't install. But if you had already it installed, just leave it as it is. No need to uninstall or disable its services, etc. Any other views ?
This endorsement means leaning towards Option 1 being the favoured way to deal with KB971033 to proceed with install and deal with the consequences later.
install it if it makes you un-genuine than that means you need better activation that's how i look at it.. i have it installed and still activated even checked online MS site after reboot
That's a gutsy approach to MS validation site and also in favor of Option 1, thanks for your advice !
Seems that majority of the experienced and experts Windows 7ers here recommend Option 1 with proceed to install KB971033 and the consequences will be later managed.
Because if you do then you see if your stuff actually passes, if not seek better methods(MDL) because I still think they might slip in a silent update which may bomb ya and they have done it in the past with updates turned off. Linux no way, the graphics still suck and icons even after all this time look like crap I'll continue making my Doze run especially 7, much sweeter
I prefer option 2, I installed it to see how my modded bios would be.... Since there is no problem being genuine, I remove the item in task scheduler to prevent it from phoning home. I will leave it as it is till.....who knows!
This is all just PR for M$ How many enthusiasts run an illigit copy? M$ also can’t ban hardmod or biosmod methods because those look just like any other OEM-sourced SLIC 2.1 BIOS. The softmod or loaders may be detectable because some use a variant of the GRUB bootloader but this attack may harm Linux dual-booters and other legitimate users.
