Aright, so what is the "real" reason Microsoft chooses to collect all this personal information and to not allow the collection to be stopped (via normal means)? Prior to Windows 10; software that did that sort of thing was known as malware, and nobody (in their right mind) would want that. But when a large-scale company does it and hands it out for free with nice gift wrap, some people flock to it, think Microsoft is their friend, and think there's no catch to the collection...

Since Windows is closed-source and (likely) nobody here works deep enough in Microsoft to know the real meaning, we can only guess what Microsoft's true intent is for the data collection. But I'm puzzled how anyone can think the intent is good or at the very least, not be a bit skeptical considering the strong-arm approach Microsoft is taking to get it.

My only issue with this situation are the people calling others out for being concerned though. I assume those people just "gave up" or never cared for their privacy to begin with, or are just outright trolling (some people have nothing better to do :p).

Edit: I'm not singling anyone out in-particular for trolling. Those people know who they are

Thank you all for your input. I think I'll go with O&O's ShutUp10. This is a stand-alone program (no installation), so I only have to run it after every Windows Update, OK. What about the ShutUp10 updates, I guess it won't update automatically so I have to do it manually, check after every Windows update for the ShutUp update? Tedious...

It ain't no secrect that information, as personal and diverse as even possible, became very valuable. After failing with Windows 8/8.1, Win 10 is the next logical step to get a foot into this lucrative market.

Not sure why some here act like somebody would force them in any way. At least at MDL it should be possible to ask this question without starting a religious war.

For myself i still keep in mind that MS is a US company, so i insist in leaving a footprint as small as even possible.

After striping out a lot of unwanted packages, including store and related nonsense, and setting Ethernet to metered, Windows runs stable and asks politely if there's anything to download. Non of the changes got touched by latest Prerelease CU.

And, yes, doggie has a smart phone ... running CM, completely stripped off anything google and as latest new app KissKMS :good3:.

    @MS-BOSS

Hmm, still have my doubts regarding OOShutup. About 80% can be done via Settings and the rest isn't very informative about what actually is fixed.

When starting it on my current system it shows most things as already done. And that without crippling WU in any way :cool2:.

Thanx, I have another question, I guess I should have asked this one first: What exaclty does Windows 10 send out, what kind of info? Personal data? Site passwords, like for Gmail? Where can I read about that? Is there an official statement?

Apparently MS only wants your best, in other words, as much personal info as possible legally, whatever the latter means nowadays :D.

They still insist in promoting all the telemetry as a way to offer everybody a 'unique personalized' experience. At a first look it seems legit to collect a lot of data to use Cortana (keystrokes and a lot of other data), Windows Hellow (Biometrics), Game Streaming (that nasty XBox stuff running in background) and Geolocation for a better app experience.

The info on what is actually sent to their servers is very diffuse.

The questions everybody needs to answer themselves would be do i need this 'functionality' for the offered price (doggies answer is a big NO! here) and is there a way to silence most of the collecting.

Still i recommend to use a well documented solution, to not break the functions that are still usefull (i.e. Windows Update).

So you paid for "your" LTSB installation?

I don't think so, you are just a pirate like any other, and you should be worried about your infos. Like everyone else.

In France, on july 20th 2016, the Chair of the National Data Protection Commission (CNIL) issues formal notice on Microsoft Corporation to stop collecting excessive data and tracking browsing by users without their consent. She is also demanding that Microsoft take satisfactory measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of user data. Microsoft Corporation was supposed to comply with the French Data Protection Act within three months. Lol.

Take a chill pill friend. Just because I'm not one of MDL's Paranoid FUD brigade, doesnt mean I have to subscribe to your theory about "everyone". The fact is that in the previous one million threads about W10 spying/telemetry on MDL I've read enough nonsensical drivel to last a lifetime (see previous post), some going as far as being downright ridiculous "MS will store all this and use it 'against you' in the future". Take a chill pill friend, calm down.

Note: Because I don't subscribe to much of the guff and drivel posted by the paranoid brigade in the previous one million threads about this DOES NOT mean I'm an MS Fanboy. You have to say this cos' it's the standard age old thing we've seen from the paranoid brigade hundreds of times on MDL, you hold a different view to me therefore "you're an MS fanboy" - "you're a retard".

A pirate - yep sure am, but far more interested in video encoding/movies/capping etc than any of the Windows stuff. Rarely post here now, not helped by MDL's resident sad racist anti British no life professional troll, persistently offending numerous posters with her repeated appalling posting style, and the forum Police deleting so much as ppl even asking if she's been banned again - gets deleted.

Edit: Hey voila! You hold a different opinion to me (even though I don't know how you run your Windows installation) so therefore I'll hurl an insult and hint that you're a troll - idiot, I've only just posted it above, look back through the thread and there it is. So so sad.

    Idiot.

So you don't have any argument, the only think you're able to do is to insult, and I'm the troll...

I think you should go to wikipedia and inform yourself about the troll definition.

Surely it fits better to you rather than me. ;)
