Western "elites" never went with true democracy - it was always an impediment for them, so they did not develop the population's potential in that regard... There are various solutions to that problem but not many are educated enough to see through the BS... I recommend Chomsky for "Manufacturing consent" etc. That knowledge liberates!
Their real intentions are to perpetuate their personal gains, aided by their advantagious position of power. The beneficiaries of this setup are the politicians and the shareholders in the companies they are shilling for, not the general public. I apologise if my post offends anyone or breaks the rules of limiting free speech.
Always be skeptical, but understand some things will be larger than you and sometimes, conspiracy is not the answer even if it is the boogieman you want to hear.
