You are the best protection. If you use your head and are careful, you will never need an antivirus. My advice is to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and scan once a week. And if you really are infected, the best solution is to reinstall anyway. PS: I've used windows for 15 years and never had an antivirus installed.
quite right! if virusses did not exist, the anti-virus industry would have to invent them. just turn on brain while browsing, instead of paying through the nose for bloatware.
I use the following combination Emsisoft anti malware on one pc Kaspersky with voodooshield on another.
Using common sense is not always effective because some malware is embedded in pages of safe sites, is inserted in software and even hardware updates of reputable companies, etc. In which case, security programs and ad filters are still helpful, together with access to news alerts.
Using Windows 7 Security Essentials and it found a virus called ----- win32/vigorf.a It tried to clean it but it never finished after 12 hours. Any suggestions?
I tried AVG and AVAST but it did not find it again. Security Essentials found it 3 times but cannot get rid of it.
Windows Defender + ublock Origin. Scanning sometimes by AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes, etc. but found just false positives or nonsense. like registry rows.
No antivirus + ublock origin. Never had one single issue in years, just make sure that your system is up-to-date and run it as a unprivileged user. Once a month, I run malwarebytes and it always comes clean. If I need to execute a suspicious file, I upload it to virustotal.
